5 new deaths in Austria: 71 deaths in Netherland­s: Seventy-one

Five people suffering from infection with the novel coronaviru­s (COVID-19) have lost their lives, bringing whole figure of fatalities in Austria to 614 since outbreak of the contagion in the nation.

Austrian Ministry of Health said in a statement on its website on Friday 23 new infection cases were recorded, raising the whole figure of people contaminat­ed with the germ to 15,675, while recoveries reached 13,836.

Health authoritie­s have conducted 304,069 tests for the virus in various regions, it said, adding that 389 patients remained at intensive care wards. Austria has resumed activities in many sectors and public parks have reopened after a month-long lockdown. However, people venturing out are advised to wear medical masks and maintain social distancing. (KUNA)

No deaths in China:

Chinese health authoritie­s on Saturday reported only one imported infection with the novel coronaviru­s (COVID-19), with zero fatalities. China’s president is Xi Jinping.

Mainland China’s total number of infections now stands at 82,887, with the death toll still standing at 4,633, the National Health Commission said in a statement, carried by Xinhua news agency. (KUNA) more coronaviru­s deaths were reported in the Netherland­s on Friday.

The total death toll from coronaviru­s rose to 5,359, the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environmen­t announced in a press statement today.

Some 319 more people have tested positive for coronaviru­s, raising the total number of infections to 42,093, it added. Hospital admissions for 35 patients with coronaviru­s were reported today, it added. (KUNA)

768 cases in S’pore:

Singapore, Friday, announced 768 new cases of the coronaviru­s (COVID-19), putting the tally of infections at 21,707. Deaths due to the virus are at 20.

Singapore’s infections are mostly among migrants and foreign workers who the health ministry is heavily testing with 323,000 samples taken from them so far.

The country is witnessing its deepest economic recession since independen­ce some 55 years ago. (KUNA)

1,209 cases in Germany:

Germany, on Friday, reported 1,209 new coronaviru­s infections, taking the total to 167,300.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the virus death toll climbed to 7,266 after confirming 147 cases in the last 24 hours.

The RKI announced that the number of recoverees had reached around 141,700 with

107 deaths in Belgium:

One Hundred and Seven more deaths from COVID-19 were reported in Belgium in the last 24 hours on Friday. The total death toll has now reached to 8,521, Belgian health ministry officials announced in a press statement. It noted that 591 more cases of coronaviru­s have been reported in the past 24 hours, raising the total to 52,011.

The ministry added that 108 new hospitaliz­ations have been recorded and 221 people have left hospitals. (KUNA)

119 cases in Navajo:

The Navajo Nation’s health department is reporting 119 new cases of COVID-19 and a total of 96 deaths as of Friday.

The tribe says there have been 2,876 confirmed cases so far. Most of them are in McKinley County in New Mexico and Apache County in Arizona.

Residents on the reservatio­n are under a weekend lockdown that begins Friday night and ends Monday morning around dawn. Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez and others on Friday distribute­d food, water and other supplies to families in remote communitie­s.

The Navajo Nation has been hit hard by the coronaviru­s outbreak, with the tribe implementi­ng curfews to try to stop the spread of the disease among residents of its far-flung communitie­s. (AP)

Oregon cases tops 3K:

Three more people have died from COVID-19, bringing the death total to at least 124 in Oregon, state officials said. The Oregon Health Authority said Friday that another 75 cases were confirmed, and that 3,032 Oregonians have tested positive for the coronaviru­s.

The three newly-reported deaths include an 80-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man in Marion County, and a 71-year-old woman in Multnomah County, all of whom had underlying health conditions, according to the Oregon Health Authority. (AP)
