Government of India set to lift residence law violators: report
Around 6,000 to leave in 10 days
KUWAIT CITY, May 26: The AlRai daily has learned from reliable security sources that India has agreed to evacuate its citizens who have surrendered to the security authorities to benefit from the amnesty that was issued by the Ministry of Interior for violators to leave the country without paying fines.
The daily added, these violators have been staying in the country for more than a month and a half, indicating that daily trips will be organized to evacuate them beginning from Monday. The daily also said more than one trip will be organized each day.
Through its embassy in Kuwait, India has informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior and the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation that it will open its air space to receive the Indians – violators of the residence law by organizing 3 trips daily from Wednesday. One flight was to leave Kuwait on Tuesday.
Violators
The sources stated that the number of residence violators who have surrendered is believed to be 6,000 and are housed in various government shelters.
The process of deportation of these Indians is expected to last over 10 days at the least.
It is noteworthy to mention that the Indians who are believed to be violators of the residence law number 42,000 and 6,000 of them have opted to benefit from the ‘Leave Safely’ initiative of the Kuwait government.
The Interior Ministry has said it will bear the cost of their departure and all fines emanating from violation of the residence law will be waived.
In a related context, Kuwait International Airport witnessed the departure of a number of European and Arab passengers on Qatar Airways.
The daily monitored the departure of Gulf travelers, residents and holders of commercial, tourist and family visas to a number of European countries.
The Qatar Airways will fly one daily flight from Kuwait to Doha transit point and then the passengers will fly to onward destinations.
