Drugs abundant, deaths reported as peddling continues in total lockdown
IDs , licences of some curfew violators confiscated
KUWAIT CITY, May 26: Unfortunately, the lockdown did not work with drug dealers in Kuwait because it is evident the drug traders continue to pump ‘the venom’ into the society and even the corona virus has not deterred drug traffickers, reports Al-Qabas daily.
This was revealed by the Attorney General, Counselor Mohammad Al-Duaij when asked if the drug trade has receded during the exceptional circumstances that the country is currently living in. He confirmed more than one person died confirming at the same time that more than one person has died after taking an overdose of drugs during the total ban period.
Counselor Al-Duaij added, “Drug cases have not decreased, and approximately 6 cases of drug peddler on a daily basis as people are arrested for either buying or selling drugs. The drug trade continues and is not deterred by the ban,” he said.
On how these men manage to find their way in spite of the comprehensive ban in Kuwait, Counselor Al-Duaij said, there are still some roads and internal streets where there are no security checkpoints to deter violators of the curfew and most people know where the checkpoints are erected and this makes very easy for the traffickers to deliver drugs, pay money and complete all operations.
On how the drugs enter the country and its availability despite the closure of the borders two months ago, counselor Al-Duaij mentioned some drug peddlers have large quantities of drugs stored sufficient for quite some time, drugs such as the psychotropic substances. Another thing is ‘shabu’ can be manufactured locally.

“With instructions from the security leaders, the security officials decided not to apply the law in its entirety, due to several considerations, including the presence of children with them, so they decided to withdraw their civil cards (27 cards) and driving licenses, and force them to return to their homes, and ask their guardians to visit the police station later.
