KUWAIT CITY, July 30: National Assembly Speaker Marzouq AlGhanim and members of the Assembly Office recently met with His Highness Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad AlJaber Al-Sabah.

Al-Ghanim said it was a meeting between a father and his children, during which HH the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince reassured all those present about the health condition of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah who is currently undergoing treatment in the USA. He added Sheikh Nawaf stressed that HH the Amir is getting better.

HH the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince stressed the importance of adhering to the Constitution, as well as the coordinated efforts of the executive and legislative authorities in addressing pressing issues, the Speaker added.

He then reiterated his call for the MPs and Assembly employees to undergo the coronavirus test on Sunday and Monday in order to ensure the results are out before Tuesday’s session.

He disclosed that items in the agenda of the upcoming session include the grilling motion of MP Riyadh AlAdasani against Minister of Finance Barrak Al-Shitan. He said the grace period for discussing the motion has ended; hence, it cannot be postponed without the Assembly’s approval.

On the other hand, Al-Ghanim affirmed the grilling motion of MP Shuaib Al-Muwaizri against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh is also included in the agenda for the upcoming session. He clarified Al-Saleh can still request for postponement of deliberations on the motion without the approval of the Assembly.

He went on to say that one hour of the session is allocated for discussing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) in response to the request of MPs Abdullah Al-Romi, Safa’a Al-Hashem, Ahmed Al-Fadl, Oudah Al-Ruwai’e and Nasser Al-Dousari. This is in addition to the allocation of two hours for tackling issues in the educational sector.

Al-Ghanim hopes the Assembly will be able to discuss and vote on six bills included in the agenda.

He also unveiled the plan to hold an extraordinary session if there will be no health measures required in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Barrak Al-Shitan said in press conference after attending the parliamentary Financial and Economic Affairs Committee meeting that they discussed the proposal of some MPs to establish an independent body for funding the retirees’ loans according to the Islamic Sharia.

While affirming that he gave initial approval for the bill, Al-Shitan clarified he still needs to study the bill to ascertain it does not contradict the recently approved proposals concerning the retirees.
