Court overturns 15-year jail for Kuwaiti in drug trafficking case

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 6: The Court of Appeals overturned the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance, which sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to 15-year imprisonment for narcotics trafficking. The court instead acquitted him, and placed him in a psychiatric hospital for treatment of addiction for a period of not less than six months.
According to the case file, the Public Prosecution charged the citizen with trafficking and consumption of narcotics after he was unable to prove that he had been authorized the use of narcotics.
The details of the incident were summarized in the investigation report by the concerned detectives. They explained that the suspect was found in possession of narcotics and psychotropic substances with the intent of trafficking and abuse.
At the time of his arrest, the narcotics were found concealed in a transparent nylon bag in his house and inside his vehicle.
Representing the defendant was Lawyer Ima’n Haidar who argued that the arrest and search warrants obtained by the arresting officer were invalid due to negligence committed during investigations.
Youth death probed: The Ahmadi police are investigating the mysterious death of a Kuwaiti, who is believed to be in his 20s, who was found dead inside an apartment in Abu Halifa, reports Al-Rai daily.
When the Operations Room of the Ministry of Interior was informed about the death, police and paramedics rushed to the spot and referred the corpse to Forensics. The daily did not give more details.
Trapped in stones: An Arab expatriate sustained several serious injuries after he slipped and fell on a bed of rocks at the seafront, reports Al-Anba daily.
According to eyewitness reports the man was trapped between two which made it difficult for passersby to come to his rescue. Some people called the Operations Room of the Directorate-General of Fire Department following which firemen rushed to the spot, and with the help of stretcher rescued him and handed over to the paramedics who rushed him to the area hospital.
The expatriate said he was fishing when the incident happened.
Bedoun arrested: The twenty-yearold bedoun who had escaped after stabbing his father in the hand in a failed bid to kill him, has been arrested by the police and referred for interrogation, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
A case of attempted murder has been registered against him.
