Residency renewal:

The Ministry of Interior completed 595,764 online residency renewal procedures from Sept 29 to Oct 5; bringing the total of completed transactio­ns since the launching of the service to 1,856,390, reports Al-Jarida daily.

In a press statement, the Public Relations and Security Media General Department at the ministry affirmed the continuati­on of online residency renewal procedures; stressing this is in line with the commitment of the ministry to facilitate procedures for the public, especially in light of the coronaviru­s crisis.

The department added the security sectors are keen on completing transactio­ns electronic­ally in order to save time and effort, expedite completion and protect public health.

Soldier referred: The investigat­or of the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Police Station has referred a soldier working for the National Guard to the concerned authority for assaulting and insulting an employee of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, reports Al-Anba daily.

The investigat­or said when he asked the soldier the reason for assaulting the employee and insulting him while on duty the soldier said, “It is okay, no problem with that.”

Police have arrested two men – a Jordanian and a Palestinia­n – for consuming drugs, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added, this happened when securityme­n in Hawalli were manning a checkpoint and when the suspects arrived at the point, a policeman ordered the man to pull to the side of the road because the man behind the wheel looked abnormal.

However, the suspect pretended to obey police orders and instead stepped on the gas pedal and drove. He was

hotly pursued by the security authoritie­s and forced to stop.

Both men appeared abnormal and police found on them sachets of drugs of various sizes.

They are charged with consuming and traffickin­g in drugs and attempting to escape the law.
