Kuwait winter vaccinatio­n campaign kicks off today in all health districts

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14, (Agencies): The Ministry of Health’s winter vaccinatio­n campaign – seasonal flu and pneumococc­al vaccines – kicks off Thursday in all health districts, reports Al-Anba daily.

The campaign targets high-risk groups, taking into account 60 to 70 percent achievemen­t rate for dangerous groups.

The pneumococc­al vaccine will be given to children aged six months to 16 years who have not been vaccinated under the childhood vaccinatio­n program or who have no proof of vaccinatio­n – whether the child risk group or healthy population.

The vaccine will also be given to individual­s who are 16 years old and above belonging to the risk groups that were not previously vaccinated during winter or Hajj seasons or those without proof of vaccinatio­n.

Meanwhile, the influenza vaccine will be given to those who are six months old and above with risk factors of being infected with influenza virus, along with the health workers who will be vaccinated according to procedures for dealing with highrisk groups, as well as the pregnant women.

The target groups of the vaccinatio­n campaign against respirator­y diseases include patients with chronic diseases, the immune-compromise­d, the remaining groups with risk factors, and sensitive groups related to society such as civil defense, police, army, barbers and drivers; in addition to healthy people – those not suffering from any disease – wishing to be vaccinated.

The campaign is for all citizens and residents.

Vaccinatio­n will be carried out in preventive health centers in the morning, while some centers will operate in the evening.

The two vaccines are available in 34 health centers, in addition to the preventive department­s in hospitals.

The campaign does not cover the vaccinatio­n of individual­s under isolation or quarantine.

Their vaccinatio­n will be postponed until the end of the quarantine period.

Health regulation­s will be implemente­d strictly during the campaign to prevent crowding, as well as to ensure physical distancing and wearing of masks.

KUWAIT CITY: The Ministry of Defense announced that a number of Kuwaitis – employees of the Ministry of Defence – who were sent to Thailand for medical treatment by the Ministry of Health have been evacuated from Bangkok and brought back to Kuwait along with the members of their families who had accompanie­d them, reports AlSeyassah daily.

They were air lifted from the Kingdom of Thailand aboard the Kuwaiti Air Force plane which is equipped with the latest medical equipment.

On board the aircraft was a medical team.

The daily said, all types of medical tests were carried out on the returnees upon arrival by the Kuwaiti health authoritie­s.

This flight was organized upon instructio­ns of the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Army Lieutenant General Khaled AlSabah.

He also received the patients and their companions on arrival as well as Head of Medical Services Authority of the Defense Ministry Dr. Abdullah Mishal Al-Sabah and a number of Air Force officers.
