Camping season postponed in view of corona

Proposal to allow families set up tents in backyards

-

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17: Due to the cancellation of spring camping season this year and the probability of extending it to December 2020 in light of the health measures to combat the spread of COVID-19 in the country, a member of the Municipal Council Ahmed Hadian Al-Enezi revealed about “a proposal to allow families to set up family tents within the backyards and gardens of their houses”, reports Al-Rai daily.

In a press statement, Al-Enezi said this proposal was submitted in a bid to compensate families for this year’s camping season, which was interrupted by the outbreak of the Coronavirus and the measures taken to combat it.

He affirmed that the proposal includes certain conditions that must be adhered to, and also the environment that would qualify for setting up spring camps.

Al-Enezi asked, “What is the point behind preventing the establishment of spring camps while allowing other forms of gatherings in several sites that are considered riskier? This proposal seeks to secure an alternative to camping that would be an outlet for the citizens”.

In a related context, a reliable source from Kuwait Municipality indicated “the possibility of adopting the proposal, provided it includes strict conditions as applied in the spring camping regulations, in addition to the licensee presenting an undertaking to remove the tent upon request, especially since the duration of the tent’s license will be specific”.

The source affirmed that the Municipality often applies the spirit of the law in a manner that does not contradict the regulations and instructions.
