Fire-fighting Force launches advanced pumps
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17: On Wednesday morning, the Firefighting Force launched a number of hydraulic floating water drawing pumps, which are the most advanced in the world, on the South Island at Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge, reports AlQabas daily.
These pumps are aimed to enhance the capabilities of the country’s firefighting force to prepare for the rainy season.
The launch event took place in the presence of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh, Head of Kuwait Fire Service
Directorate ( KFSD) Lieutenant General Khaled Al-Mekrad, as well as the leaders of the authorities that support the Firefighting Force in the event of rain and floods, including the Kuwait Armed Forces, the Ministry of Interior, the National Guard, the Ministry of Public Works, the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation, Kuwait Municipality and Kuwait Oil Company.
On the sidelines of the launch ceremony and in the presence of various press outlets, a live demonstration was held of the new pumps with highspeed capabilities in drawing and pumping water, and with power of up to 66 thousand gallons per minute. These pumps are American-made and have the ability to draw water using 120 hoses measuring 8 inches, reaching a distance of 7, 700 km, in addition to more than 160 portable and electric pumps distributed throughout the fire stations. There are 40 trailer pumps that can pump 8 thousand gallons per minute.
Some fire stations have been equipped with specialized rescue equipment, in addition to portable boats used in all places where the water level is expected to rise.
