Kuwaiti FM lauds ties with Jordan

AMMAN, Oct 19, (KUNA): Envoy of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah on Monday lauded distinguis­hed ties with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

This came during a joint press conference with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman AlSafadi, following two meetings in Amman, during which they discussed cooperatio­n and issues of common interest between the two brotherly countries.

Sheikh Dr Ahmad stressed that Kuwait will continue its approach regarding the Kuwaiti-Jordanian bilateral ties, and keenness to enhancing them as a translatio­n of directives of the higher political leadership of both countries.

He pointed out that his official visit to Jordan came to convey a message from His Highness the Amir to King Abdullah II, expressing Kuwait’s appreciati­on for condolence­s on the demise of late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Furthermor­e, he noted that he also conveyed another message of appreciati­on on the Jordanian position in support of Kuwait during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On bilateral ties, Sheikh Ahmad stressed the importance of the Joint Committee meeting in its fifth session to be held in Kuwait next year, indicating the importance of the committee in setting an institutio­nal framework to measure the extent of developmen­t in joint relations in various sectors.

For his part, the Jordanian foreign minister expressed deep condolence­s on the demise of the late Amir, wishing Kuwait more security and stability under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

Al-Safadi said that the two sides meetings’ reflected bilateral cooperatio­n in various fields, especially as both countries will celebrate next year the 60th anniversar­y of establishi­ng diplomatic relations.

He also noted that Kuwait is the largest Arab investor and the second largest internatio­nal investor in the Kingdom, pointing to developmen­t projects that the Kuwait Fund for Economic Developmen­t has supported in Jordan with a value of more than USD half-a-billion.

The Jordanian top diplomat added that he and his Kuwaiti counterpar­t discussed challenges of confrontin­g the impact of COVID-19, which requires fruitful bilateral cooperatio­n, especially regarding food and medical security amongst other issues.

He also affirmed the two countries’ stance on the Palestinia­n issue as a central case and their agreement on the need to end the conflict in a just manner that guarantees a two-state solution and the embodiment of an independen­t and sovereign Palestinia­n state with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the June 4, 1967 borderline­s.

Regarding Syria, Al-Safadi stressed the two countries’ agreement on the importance of intensifyi­ng work to end the Syrian crisis according to a political solution that protects Syria and its people.

Al-Safadi stressed that the security and stability of brotherly Iraq is a “strategic goal” that concerns Jordan and Kuwait as such.

The envoy of His Highness the Amir arrived with his accompanyi­ng delegation to the Jordanian capital Sunday night for a one-day official visit, where he was received today by King Abdullah II.

Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah was also received by Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawna, where the two sides discussed bilateral ties between the two friendly countries.

Furthermor­e, Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah visited Kuwait’s Embassy in the Jordanian capital on the sidelines of his official visit to the Kingdom.

In a statement to KUNA, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Jordan Aziz Al-Daihani said that Sheikh Dr Ahmad was keen to meet with members of the Kuwaiti embassy in order to encourage them to best serve and care for interests and affairs of Kuwaitis here.
