‘Lack of adherence to health measures threatens rise in infections, lockdown’

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 19: Following the hike in the number of COVID-19 cases, everyone in the country is required to adhere to the preventive measures in all aspects of life, so that another lockdown can be avoided, something that the concerned authorities have been hinting about. Such lockdowns have become a matter that disturbs everyone’s life and imposes harsh conditions on all activities, especially businesses, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In this regard, the daily toured various markets and complexes where some patrons appeared indifferent about adhering to the health preventive guidelines. Some ignored them completely, while some others did not implement them properly, due to lack of supervision by the concerned authorities or the business owners and their employees. This threatens further surge of the COVID-19 infections.
The daily also toured several public places, and government and private agencies, where the absence of self-monitoring, the lack of commitment to wearing masks, employees neglecting sterilization and handling papers between them and the clients, and the lack of commitment of some health centers and hospitals to put sterilizers in the designated areas, were evident.
In some government agencies, the requirement to book an appointment in advance is no longer observed. Congestion in the hallways is back, and employees allow all clients to enter without checking.
According to informed sources, some government departments have witnessed over the past few weeks infections among employees.
Online appointment reservation system is disrupted. After its successful application in the first few months of the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, it turned into “ink on paper”.
This issue raises many questions about the reason behind the slackness and lack of keenness of the government and private agencies and shopping centers to implement these measures as they did in the past. The cooperative societies and parallel markets witnessed great crowding due to non-implementation of the online reservation system for appointments.
Meanwhile, employees of a private company said some of their colleagues had contracted the COVID-19 virus, but the company did not take the necessary measures to sterilize the building, and it only gave the infected employees leave pending recovery, while other employees continued to work.
Some of the commercial markets and restaurants witnessed crowding, neglect in the application of the physical spacing mechanism, and lack of commitment to provide disposable utensils.
It was also remarkable to note the return of gatherings in bachelors’ areas, which threatens the resurgence of COVID-19 infections.
Informed sources called on the need to spread health awareness for protecting the country, and to apply penalties on those who are not committed to wearing masks and those who are exposed to the spread of the pandemic.
They insisted that commercial complexes and markets urgently need to apply preventive measures.
