‘Security officers manning ports must have best gear’

‘Do more for Kuwaitis, expats’

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 16: The Minister of the Interior Sheikh Thamer Al-Ali has said the security authoritie­s manning the ports should be given the best and latest technologi­cal equipments to strengthen the security corridor calling it vital to protect the homeland, and also called for establishi­ng a police station at the Kuwait Internatio­nal Airport instead of referring the cases to the Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh police station, reports Al-Anba daily.

The Minister called for the need to exert more efforts to make the entry and exit procedures for the Kuwaitis and residents more flexible while at the same time tightening control over security by taking precaution­ary measures.

Sheikh Thamer also stressed on the need to continue work towards providing facilities and removing all obstacles facing the elderly and people with special needs and making use of a number of languages to deal more easily with guests and visitors to Kuwait from all over the world and mastering the skill of sign language to deal with deaf and dumb travelers, and the continuous developmen­t and modernizat­ion of the security system of the port security sector to achieve the desired goal.

This came during a field tour undertaken by the Minister of Interior inside the ports security sector, where he was received by the Assistant Undersecre­tary of the Ministry of Interior for Port Security Affairs Major General Mansour Al-Awadhi and a number of assistant undersecre­taries and general managers of the relevant sectors to get first hand informatio­n on some of issues that hinder the sector’s work and discuss ways to solve these issues.

He began his tour with a visit to the Specialize­d Training Center for Ports Security Affairs, and listened to an explanatio­n about the training course for the deaf and dumb, and distribute­d certificat­es to the trainees, praising the efforts and continuous work he saw to improve the level of performanc­e through those courses offered by the Center, stressing that the security men.

He also listened to a brief explanatio­n of work mechanism adopted by managers affiliated to airport security, then presented a summary of the work of the General Administra­tion of Land Ports, its achievemen­ts, requiremen­ts and future plans for its developmen­t.

The Assistant Undersecre­tary for Electrical Distributi­on Networks at the Ministry of Electricit­y and Water, Eng. Mutlaq Al-Otaibi, announced the ministry will soon in cooperatio­n with the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, provide electricit­y in the private buildings for homes in Taima for the benefit of about 500 families living in that area, says AlSeyassah.

He said this during the power supply to the Al-Funaitees clinic recently, within the framework of cooperatio­n between the ministries of Health, Electricit­y and Water to provide facilities for medical services.

Al-Otaibi said in a press statement the power supply will serve the Al-Funaitees residentia­l area, where about 70 percent of the residentia­l area has been occupied and called for accelerati­ng the power supply operation to serve the residents of the area.

He added the maximum consumptio­n rate for the dispensary was one megawatt, and the station was operated with a transforme­r of 1250 kW capacity, which would secure the delivery of current to this vital center on which the residents of the region depend.

Regarding the maintenanc­e work for the distributi­on stations, Al-Otaibi clarified that they are carried out according to the specified schedules, and are conducted from 4 am to 8 am to avoid any interrupti­on during vital periods of time.

Regarding the transmissi­on of power supply to the new areas in Al Mutla’a and South Abdullah and Al-Mubarak, he pointed out that weekly meetings are held with the Municipali­ty, the Public Authority for Housing Welfare and the Ministry of Public Works to fix a specific date to open the door for issuing licenses and receive requests to begin constructi­on work and ensure that the power supply is delivered to build those cities.
