‘Our achievements are words, their achievements are deeds’

- — Compiled by Ahmad Al-Shazli

“THE year 2021 began in the State of Kuwait with great disappointment that dominated the citizens aspiring to achieve comprehensive development of their homeland due to the ‘unjust’ behavior of some representatives during the opening session of the National Assembly,” columnist Dr Bahija Behbehani wrote for Al-Qabas daily.

“The election results indicated that there was a very big change in the composition of the new parliament, which confirmed the voters’ anger at the performance of the previous parliament and their desire to change the economic, health, educational and service conditions in their homeland.

“Hence, the feelings of anger and despair among the citizens were one of the negatives in the first session, as that session witnessed intense discussions following the announcement of the results of the elections for Speaker of the Parliament, followed by the security chaos, in addition to the suspicion of the existence of unsealed ballot papers.

“Accordingly, some MPs submitted a request to form a parliamentary commission to investigate the events of the opening session. This unfortunate beginning of the

Assembly is an indication of the persistence of the same illness and the deterioration of quality in productivity which will continue over the next 4 years – if the Assembly is not dissolved – and when the citizen looks at the remarkable achievements in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council States, and begins to lament our situation in Kuwait, which we once boasted as Pearl of the Gulf.

“For example, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will soon embark to manufacture cars, in cooperation with Lucid Motors, Inc., as Saudi Arabia seeks to be a center in the Middle East for the manufacture of electric vehicles to diversify its economy in addition to oil.

“The UAE government has also launched the world’s first government domain consisting of a single letter U, which aims to facilitate the public to access to information, services, projects, strategies and laws in the country.

“Dubai also announced the first smart oil barrel in the world aimed at encouraging companies and workers in the petroleum sector to benefit from digital development and artificial intelligence technologies. This step aims to achieve the largest possible amount of production, especially increasing the rate of extraction of ore.

“The State of Qatar has also managed to create and develop a large transport network with international specifications. The Doha Metro project is considered the largest mass transit project in cities in the Middle East.

“The Qatar Rail Company was also established, and there is a highway project that connects Doha with all cities. The major centers of energy and industry in Qatar, the long-distance train for transporting passengers and goods, which connects Qatar to the railway network of the Gulf Cooperation Council states, and the Lusail light transport train.”

“The lovers of conspiracy theory and those who believe that the Earth is flat themselves believe that the Corona vaccine contains a chip to monitor the faces, and to a stupid degree there are those who say that the Corona vaccine implants a cell inside a person which can be later detonated in case of invasion of the country by the manufactures of the vaccine for their benefit and these people are not at all surprised if they are told that aliens run the government in secret, exactly the same politicians who blow our brains day and night by telling us of the existence of a deep state,” columnist Tha’ar Al-Rashidi wrote for Al-Anba daily.

“Logically, the vaccine is the only way to stop the spread of the Corona epidemic, and the disaster is that someone who promoted the vaccine conspiracy theory told me what the scientist, Professor, Haifa Wehbe – the eminent Lebanese actress and singer – said about the vaccine, that she refuses it because she doubts how it was manufactured.

“Those who believe in the vaccine conspiracy theory are doctors, unfortunately, forgetting that vaccines have protected people from pandemics, including the tetanus, tuberculosis, polio and smallpox although this is a historical fact which they overlook.

“You are free to give your scientific opinion, but do not instill fear and terrify people and do not spread panic among them just because you want to give your opinion and want to look different.

“The most important thing is that scientific opinions are given in lecture rooms and during scientific conferences attended by the science elite and not the public such as the doctors who oppose the vaccine, and their goal is as I have seen and from my media opinion, they do not want to spread awareness among people, but rather they want to promote their names by giving a different opinion.

“The number of those who registered for vaccination is less than 200,000, although the target group is more than 3 million, and this means that people are afraid, do not want, or do not trust, and here the disaster is the government represented by the ministries of Health and Information have failed to spread awareness to encourage people to take the vaccine and dispel their fears, which is the role of the media.

“Yes, they have failed miserably and deserve to be held accountable after they abandoned the people at the mercy to doctors and ignorant people who do not value their words and their impact on public health.

“Some doctors spread fear only because they want to look different, they do not express an opinion to consider it freedom of opinion and expression, but rather they offer scientific advice that spreads fear among people.

“Whoever asks to stop the interrogation under the pretext that we are living under the shadow of the Corona pandemic, I tell them: ‘If your car is stolen, do not call the police because we are in the midst of Corona pandemic.’”

“The government and National Assembly are the two authorities upon which the balance of government is based. Each of them has its own performance and point of view in ratification the necessary laws,” columnist Motlaq Al-Qarawi wrote for Al-Anba daily.

“The government sees from the point of view of the general interest of the country, while the Assembly sees what the people see, but both authorities contribute to the realization of a goal.

“Kuwaitis are tired of many complaints on non-cooperation between the two authorities, so some boycotted the elections and were not concerned about it. Perhaps, some say this is a healthy phenomenon, but it has increased along with the fear of turning against it!

“If we would correct the issue objectively, we would find that the government’s agenda is ready before it took the oath, and that the elected MP lives in the atmosphere of his opinion as well as the views of his constituents and colleagues in the Assembly.

“Often, their compatibility is disturbed – whether in drafting laws or understanding the regulations – such that the Assembly’s sessions turn into controversy, conflict and accusations which some might misunderstand.

“Establishing the Constitution and what it contains in guiding the interest of the country have contributed to solving many problems. It is a significant opinion that may be interpreted and transferred, but the intention is to be understood in the interest of the public. Therefore, the two authorities must cooperate on one approach and a specific method that defines the goal and pushes development to a better level.”
