KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: The factfinding committee for cleaning contracts in the Municipal Council held its fourth meeting yesterday, in the presence of the Director General of the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) Sheikh Muhammad Al-Youssef, the Environment Public Authority and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), as well as representatives of the executive body.

The head of the committee, Abdul Salam Al-Randi, announced in a press statement that the idea of establishing a small factory with a specific area for each agricultural plot of land had been proposed to directly get rid of waste, explaining that the Public Authority for Industry would be invited to apply this idea and discuss the minimum area of the farm that needs this type of plants.

Al-Randi said that the committee received several recommendations during the meeting, the most important of which is the need to have a committee formed by the concerned authorities, the Environment Public Authority, PAAAFR and KISR, to confront the accumulation of waste in agricultural areas and animal breeding areas, in addition to forming a periodic committee to tour the areas where there is a lot of waste and provide solutions to deter carelessness and damaging the environment.

He pointed out that the focus was on the issue of waste accumulated in the Kabd area and surrounding plots of land which have been earmarked for breeding livestock, and the most important observation was the issue of accumulated waste from animal carcasses, noting that at each meeting, new mechanisms and solutions are forwarded that contribute to developing a plan for waste disposal. .

Al-Randi pointed out that the KISR was an important part during the meeting in terms of shedding light on how to get rid of dead carcasses in light of the existence of a mechanism to find out the cause of their death and study if the animals died due to an epidemic so that necessary actions may be taken to protect the citizens and workers from getting infected.

Regarding the committee’s tour of the cleaning center in Kabd, Al-Randi said it turned out that the center needs attention and follow-up from officials, indicating that it is not surprising that there are frequent complaints about the neglect of the cleaning center, stressing that the fact-finding committee for hygiene contracts has realized the suffering they are talking about.

For her part, Municipal Council member Maha Al-Baghli said that the tour in Kabd revealed the extent of the poor hygiene situation and the shortcomings of hygiene contracts, adding that many observations will be presented in a comprehensive report after the completion of the visit to all governorates and recommendations will be submitted as and when required.
