George’s sayings – my words

- A.alsarraf@alqabas.com.kw

The famous American author and novelist George Martin says: I have lived thousands lives and I have loved thousand loves. I have walked on distant worlds and seen end of time and all of this happened because I read.

think there is nothing more important than reading in deciding the course of my life and the shape of my thoughts, and made me the person I am. This is somewhat difficult hobby that took me to worlds that I did not dream of or even imagine they exist and how wonderful they were.

The worlds of human beings, brown, red, white and blonde, tall and short, colors and eyes that have no limits, and their beauty and strangeness in form and behavior.

Statues, paintings and figures that you look at and touch with reverence, wonderful songs that please the ear to hear for hours without boredom, strange foods that you never imagine how wonderful they are, and the accent of beautiful and strange language words for different peoples make you wonder about how they were formed over thousands of years, and with time became a vessel of culture for every people, this is besides enjoying the arts of various other countries of the world and the colors of their costumes and strange products, and knowing their hopes and dreams, and even their fears and concerns.

Reading is the best cruise you can imagine on a huge luxury steamboat that takes you to various corners of the world to enjoy all its human richness, without leaving your armchair. Reading is what opened the minds of millions, freed them from the shackles of outdated traditions and unleashed the creativity within them, and it is the hand that opened the windows of knowledge, love, peace for the reader, and made him genuinely feel that our world is beautiful, and every individual in this vast universe has his or her character, his religion, belief, food, clothing, drink, form, music, arts and novels, and we must all live with and respect them, and perhaps enjoy them as well, if we want the world to respect our arts, beliefs, clothing and food.

The environmental and health disasters that afflict humanity from time to time have shown to every person who has thought, mind, insight, logic and ethics that we all live in one boat, and our destiny is one, and it is therefore absurd, but rather stupid, to think that we are better than others, or that we are distinguished by something unique from them, or we are better than them and closer to heaven.

We are all equal in our fear of death and in our endeavor to enjoy life to the fullest, in the desire to extend our lives, to be healthy and strong, and to be the most beautiful in form and morals, and no belief has succeeded in making human beings otherwise, and this is the height of equality.

That is why, and because of all this, no cleric, ignorant or fanatic, and of any belief he belongs, encourages his followers to read, for fear that their eyes will open to the beauty of others’ creations, broaden their horizons of ideas, and get to know other peoples more, so that they become influenced by them, tolerate and coexist with them, and this is what they do not want to happen because it harms their interests, reduces their status, and ridicules their prestige.
