Program takes audience on a virtual tour around Kuwait Platform matches organizations with applicants

KUWAIT CITY, March 4: On this special day, our National Day, there was plenty to celebrate at The British School of Kuwait (BSK) as it promised its students and parents a full and exciting programme that was delivered virtually. The National Day celebrations began live through the BSK Facebook page for all of our parents and students to watch and enjoy. Our students dressed in National Day themed attire before enjoying the educational experience from the comfort of their homes. Thanks to the magic of animation, we were able to transform a regular show into a magical adventure and tour around Kuwait.

The traditional ceremony was declared open by our two masters of ceremony Malak Allam and Hassan Sarkouh. This was followed by a salute of the flag by the Scouts before our BSK student piano ensemble played the National Anthem with all students playing from their homes. It was a delightful sight! The Quran recitation by Ali Al-Khalifah was very blissful indeed and the students were happy to see Miss Natasha Zikic, Junior Phase Head Teacher, and Mr Scott Bryant, Lower Phase Head Teacher, giving their welcome speeches. Miss Hebat Allah Gomaa, the Head of Primary Arabic also delivered a rousing Arabic speech.

One of our Year 5 students, Zainah AlKhaldi recited a beautiful poem, the opening stanza of which began with ‘Kuwait our hearts are full of love for you, a love so true we savour. Kuwait you are in our souls. You are our one and only .... ’ which perfectly summed up our love for Kuwait.

We reminisced with a collage of photos of National Day events of bygone years which did provoke a tear or two. We also celebrated students who had participated in our art competition and the primary National Day Arabic composition competition.

We were very fortunate to have Chef Sadiqa Ismael from the Dar Hamad restaurant teach us how to make Guirs Ogaili. With the aid of a drone, Chef Sadiqa Ismael could be seen waving to us from the famous Dar Hamad restaurant, famous for its delectable Kuwait cuisine on the Gulf Road. Some students were invited to decorate cupcakes in the colours of the Kuwaiti flag at the restaurant. As the drone was ready to take off again we could see our BSK students showing their delicious edible cupcakes along with a big cake, on which were the words ‘We Love Kuwait’. What a beautiful view from the sky!

The fun of the adventure did not stop there as we visited our student Christopher Brtanian out in the desert reflecting on how our forefathers lived, admiring how they benefited from camels with their unique survival traits to live in the

desert.

The stream of surprises was never ending as in collaboration with Kuwait Scientific Center we were able to explore the desert of Kuwait and observe its animals which included a falcon, another iconic symbol of Kuwait. The explanations of the instructor Salah Bebehani further enhanced the learning experience.

Information

Other creatures shown included a wild cat, a spiral lizard, a hedgehog and different types of desert birds of prey such as the owl eagle. Two of our students gave us further information about falcons and their strength and about their power of vision, which enabled them to identify static or moving prey a couple of kilometres away. The sight of a falcon flying and then landing on one of the students provided a further thrill.

BSK students from Reception

to Year 5 were invited to submit wonderful videos showing them performing around Kuwait including outside some very famous landmarks to a variety of Kuwaiti songs. We are eternally grateful to our BSK parents and students for their contributions as they performed with such perfection and it was a wonderful way to end the show.

This truly was a fantastic virtual event showcasing the innovative way BSK can adapt to challenging situations and bring together its community during a pandemic to celebrate our love for Kuwait. Our thanks to everyone who was involved in the creation of this spectacular show and to our school community for watching and giving us such wonderful comments. Take a look at The British School of Kuwait Facebook page to watch and enjoy the event at your leisure.
