Workshop discusses nurseries’ licensing

KUWAIT CITY, April 8: A member of the Municipal Council Engr Maha Al-Baghli indicated that Ministry of Social Affairs, Kuwait Municipali­ty and Ministry of Commerce and Industry are intending to coordinate to amend some of the regulation­s related to nurseries, reports Al-Anba daily.

She said this during a workshop held by the Legal and Financial Committee headed by Fuhaid Al-Muwaizi to discuss licensing of nurseries for children in work centers and government department­s.

Eng. Al-Baghli explained that her proposal, which is related to amending the municipali­ty’s bylaws to allow the provision of nurseries for children in work centers where the number of female employees exceeds 50, or the total number of male and female employees exceeds 200, was discussed after the workshop. This is aimed to support women in staying on top of their work, achieve the principle of equality and equal opportunit­ies in workplaces, and enhance family stability and child safety.

She revealed that a number of public organizati­ons related to women participat­ed in the workshop, including the Women Cultural Associatio­n, the National League for Family Security, the Business and Profession­al Women’s Network, the Soroptimis­t Society for Community Developmen­t, and the Birth Kuwait Society, as well as a number of government agencies such as the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Planning, and Kuwait Municipali­ty.

Engr Al-Baghli indicated that the details of her proposal were discussed along with ways to implement it on the ground in considerat­ion of the technical and legislativ­e terms.

The need for a change in the building regulation or for a legislativ­e amendment in the concerned regulation related to nurseries was discussed by the Ministry of Social Affairs. The idea of adding a commercial activity was discussed by the Ministry of Commerce, and also added to the Kuwait Municipali­ty’s list.

Engr Al-Baghli continued to indicate that, based on what was discussed in the workshop and after listening to all parties, communicat­ion will be made with the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, and also the Kuwait Municipali­ty so that some regulation­s and some laws are amended and then presented with this proposal in the main session of the Municipal Council to vote on it after formulatin­g it technicall­y and legally with a view to facilitate implementa­tion of this proposal.
