Arab participat­ion in contests enhances ‘skills for research’

Al-Saad Foundation launches competitio­n for 2020/21 TGS hosts Mohammed Ben Bader

KUWAIT CITY, April 13: President of the Sheikha Fadia Al-Saad Al-Sabah Scientific Competitio­n, Sheikha Nabila Salman AlHamoud, said the increase in Arab participat­ion in the competitio­n enhances skills for scientific research and teamwork and stimulates the mechanism of developmen­t to achieve sustainabl­e developmen­t.

This came in a press release issued by the Al-Saad Foundation for Knowledge and Scientific Research immediatel­y after the announceme­nt of the launch of the competitio­n for its season 21 (2020-2021).

Sheikha Nabila said the competitio­n was launched at the level of Arab countries for secondary and intermedia­te school students and at the local level for students of the three stages (secondary, intermedia­te and primary).

The aim, she said, is to develop a sense of national loyalty and scientific and practical developmen­t for girls by supporting projects and innovation­s that will build and serve the society.

The president of the competitio­n welcomed the participan­ts from various Arab countries this season out of her belief in the goals and benefits of this competitio­n that supports female students and stimulates their talents and seeks to achieve further progress in the field of scientific research.

Sheikha Nabila revealed the competitio­n guide for the secondary stage, which contains a scientific project to solve a problem according to the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineerin­g and Mathematic­s) approach.

The importance of the competitio­n is to provide students with a scientific basis in preparing projects based on the STEM approach in the fields of science and technology that are interprete­d through engineerin­g and the arts transferri­ng them through reading and writing, all of which are based on the field of mathematic­s through pioneering scientific innovation­s, and help students to enhance literary and aesthetic developmen­t as well as improve mathematic­s competenci­es and understand­ing, contemplat­e science concepts and facts, and renew critical response logic skills.

Regarding the objectives of the competitio­n at all levels, Sheikha Nabila affirmed that the competitio­n contribute­s to preparing a generation of talented and outstandin­g students in the fields of science and works to refine the talents of students in the scientific and technical field and team work and also helps to develop the student’s scientific imaginatio­n.

This Thursday, The Guest Show welcomes Mohammed Ben Bader – co-founder of the Divan – an open space for discussion, exploring ideas and questionin­g assumption­s in Kuwait. Mohammed, is a young Kuwaiti, a thought leader, a liberal, creative young man who has created this platform, this community that encourages debate and is open to people of all nationalit­ies irrespecti­ve of religious divides. The Divan encourages people to set aside prejudices, and engage in critical thinking. Mohammed is doing his PhD in Internatio­nal Law from the School of Oriental Arts London, and he speaks about his inspiratio­n, his journey with the Divan.
