KUWAIT CITY, July 8, (KUNA): Director-General of the General Administration of Kuwaiti Customs, Counselor Jamal Al-Jalawi, discussed Thursday customs work with the technical team concerned with studying the future strategy of the Customs Information Center in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The General Administration of Customs said in a press statement that during the meeting they discussed the mechanism of release of goods, types of data and linkage with government agencies related to releases, as well as electronic tracking of trucks and the infrastructure of the General Administration of Customs for networks. He added that these discussions come within the framework of field visits to the first customs entry ports and the inter-customs entry ports, which included the Land Customs Department and the Shuwaikh Port Customs in the State of Kuwait.

For his part, the Director of the Customs Information Center in the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, Engineer Hossam Al-Bilahi said, according to the statement, that this visit comes in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Council in its 17th consultative meeting in 2017 regarding completing the final status of the Customs Union and assigning the Union Authority to work on developing the mechanism for exchanging information Customs data from the first entry points in advance electronically.

Al-Bilahi stated that the visit also aims to implement the unified customs requirements, standards and procedures at the first entry points, in order to facilitate the movement of goods without repeating its procedures at the inter-ports. He referred to the decision of the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee at its meeting in 2018 to assign the General Secretariat to prepare an integrated study on the future strategy of the Customs Information Center in the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

He added that the strategic study aims to develop the level of data and information exchange between customs authorities and administrations in the GCC countries through the Customs Information Center in the GCC Secretariat in a way that facilitates the movement of consignments and goods between them.
