Kuwaiti charity funds cataract surgeries, orphanage in Yemen
ADEN, July 17, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Global Charity Association for Development (Tanmeia) fully funded 100 cataract surgeries for Yemenis in the governorate of Taiz on Thursday as it witnessed the launch of an orphanage in the war-torn country.
The local organisation tasked with organising the endeavours, Ramz Foundation for Development, said that the four-day campaign delivered 100 glaucoma and intraocular lens surgeries.
The campaign targeted the most affected, paid in full by the Kuwaiti charity, including medical checkups and medication, in response to the dire needs of the Yemeni people, it added.
Seperately, the Kuwait-based foundation is covering the expenses of an orphanage home, which is so far tending to the needs of 20 children.
Kuwait had always been one of the top countries supporting Yemen’s peace and security and Yemenis are grateful for the Kuwaiti role in their development as well as for the humanitarian efforts, said Yemeni Foreign Minister Ahmad bin Mubarak last week.
In an interview with KUNA on
Wednesday, bin Mubarak recalled the peace talks which Kuwait hosted in 2016, a gathering lasting for over 100 days and was brokered by the UN.
He also underlined Kuwait’s efforts to resolve Yemen’s issues and defend its sovereignty during its nonpermanent membership at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in 2018-2019.
Kuwait had also played a role in ending the war in Yemen and unite the country in 1979, as it brokered an agreement between the two clashing sides, the minister said.
