36 arrested in traffic raids

39,797 citations issued, 57 cars seized

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17: Weekly statistics issued by the General Traffic Department show 39,797 traffic citations have been issued against reckless, negligent motorists and people wanted by law, in addition to impounding 57 vehicles and towing them to the Ministry of Interior garage, reports Al-Anba daily.

A security source said this happened when the securityme­n were deployed in all governorat­es upon instructio­ns of the Undersecre­tary of the Ministry of Interior, Lieutenant-General Faisal Al-Nawaf, and under the direct supervisio­n of MajorGener­al Jamal Al-Sayegh.

The daily said during the campaign 36 people were arrested and referred to the Traffic Court. The 40 juveniles who were arrested have been referred to the Juvenile Prosecutio­n and the four persons who were wanted in connection with financial cases have been referred to the concerned authority.

Young woman harassed:

An unidentifi­ed Kuwaiti has been arrested and referred for interrogat­ion for allegedly harassing a young woman in the parking lot of a commercial complex, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added, when police officers intervened, he reportedly beat one of them. He was later overpowere­d, handcuffed and taken to the Sharq Police Station.

It has been reported the arrest came after a waiter working for one of the restaurant­s in the area called the Operations Department of the Ministry of Interior and complained about the man. The man was reportedly abnormal.

Gunfire disperses

youths: The series of attacks on security men continues unabated, the last of which happened in the suburb of Rawdah when a violator of the traffic law was stopped by a patrolman, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added, the motorist was ordered to pull over because he had fitted an exhaust in his car made annoying sounds.

When the officer asked the motorist to show his ID, he refused and instead sought the help of his 11 friends who rushed to place and attempted to attack the patrolmen and when one of them attempted to grab the officer’s service revolver, he fired warning shots in the air forcing the suspect’s friends to flee.

The car plate numbers of some of them have been recorded and a case has been recorded against them. The prime culprit has been arrested and referred for interrogat­ion.

Firemen rescue two stuck in home blaze

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 17: A fire that broke out in a vehicle in Salmiya. No casualties have been reported but the vehicle was reduced to a skeleton, reports Al-Anba daily. Police are investigat­ing.

On the other hand, the Hazardous Materials firefighti­ng teams dealt yesterday evening with a house fire in the Qurain area.

The daily quoting fire sources said two women were rescued by firemen who were trapped on the first floor of the house. They were treated for smoke inhalation.

Meanwhile , acting on informatio­n, firemen from the Farwaniya Fire-fighting Center rushed to the Airport Road and put out fire to a car Saturday evening, reports Al-Rai daily. The owner of the car who suffered minor burn injuries was taken to a hospital by paramedics.

The cause of the fire is not known.

Drug pushers held: The General Administra­tion of Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Ministry of Interior the Border Security Sector of the General Administra­tion of Land Border Security, the Land Border Research and Investigat­ion Department has arrested two illegal residents for possessing 375 pills of Captagon in the Jahra Governorat­e, reports Al-Anba daily.

The arrest came as a continuous effort of the security forces to flush out drug trafficker­s whose number is increasing. The daily added, the main accused who is believed to be an Arab and who was watching the sale of drugs from far, escaped when the police swooped on the two suspects. The arrested men have confessed to traffickin­g in drugs.

Police have also seized from the two men a sum of money believed to be from the sale of drugs.

Staff dissatisfi­ed: After it was postponed earlier this month due to a technical malfunctio­n in the computers of Kuwait University, the Ministry of Public Works organized today an interview to fill the supervisor­y position for the Ministry employees who had been shortliste­d to fill the vacancies, reports Al-Qabas daily.

However, a number of employees who took the test expressed their dissatisfa­ction with the questions, stressing that it contained technical details they learned about 20 years ago.
