Awqaf inaugurate­s final qualifiers for Quran Memorizati­on and Recitation

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 19, (KUNA): The General Secretaria­t of Awqaf inaugurate­d recently the final qualifiers for the 24th Kuwait Grand Competitio­n for Quran Memorizati­on and Recitation under the slogan (Reassure) under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, which will last for two weeks.

The Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Issa Al-Kandari, said in a speech during the opening ceremony delivered on his behalf by the Acting Secretary-General of the General Secretaria­t of Endowments, Mansour Al-Saqabi, that the slogan of the competitio­n (Reassure) was inspired by the secretaria­t in light of the current conditions that the country and the whole world are going through as a result of the corona pandemic and from Quranic connotatio­ns.

Al-Kandari stated that “the General Secretaria­t

of Awqaf, since its establishm­ent until this day, has been based on the care of the Holy Book, the keepers of its Holy Book, and the supreme sponsor of the competitio­n “throughout the history of the competitio­n.”

He pointed out that the number of participan­ts in the final qualifiers for this year reached 1,939, the number of males, 860 and 1,079 females, qualified through 42 official and private bodies that seek to serve the Book of God Almighty, disseminat­e its memorizati­on, refining and care for its memorizers.

He explained that they are all competing in the various categories of the competitio­n, which includes the general competitio­n, the youth competitio­n, the glory competitio­n, people with special needs, the elderly, correction­al institutio­ns, and inmates of care homes, in addition to the reading competitio­n.
