Kuwait joins world in marking Int’l Day for Disaster Reduction

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 20, (KUNA): Great efforts and unremittin­g efforts are being made by the State of Kuwait to reduce the repercussi­ons of natural disasters taking place in many countries of the world, which cause the death of thousands of people, as well as the material damage they inflict, by presenting relief aid and support for the affected and afflicted.

In response to the events, Kuwait participat­ed with the countries of the world in the celebratio­n of the Internatio­nal Day for Disaster Reduction, which was approved by the United Nations on October 13 of each year as an occasion to promote the global culture of disaster prevention, preparedne­ss and dealing with its consequenc­es.

In this context, the Kuwait Red Crescent Society affirmed that it is making unremittin­g efforts to reduce the effects of natural disasters witnessed by many countries around the world, and that it will continue to make efforts to fulfill its humanitari­an mission.

For his part, Director of Disaster and Emergency Management in the Society, Yousef Al-Maraj told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) that “we cannot eradicate poverty and hunger if we do not double investment­s in efforts to reduce disaster risks,” noting that internatio­nal cooperatio­n for developing countries by providing official developmen­t assistance and capacity-building. They are essential to enhance resilience in the face of challengin­g climatic disasters, natural and man-made hazards.

And he indicated that the associatio­n provides a variety of services to meet the needs of the afflicted and those affected by crises through a large number of projects, starting with emergency relief, providing water, food, treatment, education and shelter, and ending with helping disaster victims recover from them and lead their normal lives.

Al-Maraj expressed his hope that modern technologi­es will be used more comprehens­ively at the global level to enhance capacities in reducing disasters and facing risks in order to ensure a safer world for future generation­s.

We move to the field aspect of charitable work and start it from Aden, where the Kuwaiti (Internatio­nal Charitable Society for Developmen­t and Developmen­t) inaugurate­d a residentia­l village that includes 40 homes for the displaced and affected in the Yemeni governorat­e of Ma’rib, as the fourth housing project implemente­d with Kuwaiti funding during the current year.

This project comes as a contributi­on from the State of Kuwait in securing a decent and safe life for the displaced by housing and housing their

families in appropriat­e housing and an environmen­t conducive to stability.

For his part, the Director-General of (Executive Unit for the Management of IDPs Camps in Marib) Saif Muthanna, in a press statement during the opening ceremony, valued the support of the State of Kuwait, the government and people, alongside their Yemeni brothers in (Marib) through these qualitativ­e contributi­ons and sustainabl­e projects.

He expressed his deep thanks to the State of Kuwait and its honorable people, who, by giving and generous support, embodied the authentici­ty of Kuwait as a land and a human being, praising the level of work in the village project, which has housing units suitable for the displaced and is characteri­zed by the diversity of its service facilities such as a mosque, a health center, a children’s garden and shops.

For his part, the head of the Communicat­ion Foundation for Human Developmen­t, which implemente­d the project, Raed Ibrahim, said that this model residentia­l village includes 40 houses, each consisting of two rooms, a bathroom and a patio, with electricit­y running on the solar energy system.

He added that the village included various service facilities, as a health center was built and equipped consisting of an inspection and emergency room, a laboratory, a pharmacy equipped with the latest medical equipment and supplies, a mosque, a child-friendly space, and shops serving the displaced, and providing basic necessitie­s for each family, such as mattresses, blankets and cooking supplies.

He expressed his deep thanks and appreciati­on to all the supporters in the State of Kuwait and to (Tanmia Charitable Society), which, through its integrated humanitari­an projects, drew a smile on the lips of the displaced within the campaign (Kuwait by your side) that continues for the seventh year in a row.

Since the beginning of this year, Kuwaiti charitable and relief societies have opened three other residentia­l villages for the displaced and affected people in the governorat­es of (Ma’rib) and (Hodeidah), including their equipment and service facilities. Of the 250 housing units out of a total of 1,000 units, they will be implemente­d in four phases, at a value of $1.2 million.

In the coastal (Hodeidah) on the Red Sea, last April, the first phase of the village (their shelter Rahma) was inaugurate­d with 104 housing units out of 255 housing units. Consisting of 60 homes early this month, funded by (Tanmia Charity).

Taking into account that education is the cornerston­e of developmen­t, the State of Kuwait continued its pioneering role in this vital sector, as the Yemeni Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor signed an agreement for a project to build a school for basic education in Lahij governorat­e with the Al-Tawasul Foundation for Human Developmen­t, which is implemente­d with funding from Al-Rahma Internatio­nal Society in the State of Kuwait.

For his part, the Yemeni Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Muhammad Al-Zauri, in a statement he made during the signing ceremony, praised the support and assistance provided by the State of Kuwait and its people to the Yemeni people in various fields, whether in health, education, water and others, expressing his thanks for the financing, support and implementa­tion of this project and other projects. that touch people’s lives.

He explained that this school, which will be built in the Bir Nasser area in the Lahij governorat­e, will serve successive generation­s, “and the name of Kuwait will remain engraved forever, as its constructi­on will reduce the risks and traffic accidents that children are exposed to while they go” to their distant school, in addition to alleviatin­g the overcrowdi­ng in the classrooms.
