Several students submit requests to withdraw from KU
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 3: Several students, who got admitted to Kuwait University for academic year 2022/2023, have submitted requests to withdraw from the university, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting sources.
Sources revealed these students want to apply for admission to the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) or the internal scholarship program.
Sources said there has been no official report on the number of students intending to withdraw from the university; but dozens are expected to do so, as they got accepted in courses that were not their first choice although they specified such courses in the application for admission. Sources pointed out the students are allowed to change their course later according to the transfer policy of the university.
Sources confirmed the withdrawal of some students opened slots in some colleges; which gives the university an opportunity to increase admission seats in the second semester, as well as to move forward with the plan to accept excellent foreign students in courses with a high number of available slots.
Meanwhile, Dr. Hanin Shafeeq AlGhabra, Assistant Vice President of Kuwait University for External Research Cooperation and Consultation, announced that for the first time the research sector is in the process of cooperating with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to activate the Fast Track service, which is specialized in reducing the time period for patent registration from 3 years to one year, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Al-Ghabra explained that this comes with the aim of making it easier for researchers, and encouraging them to submit more new patents.
Since its establishment, the Kuwait University has been striving to provide support and care for the innovations of its researchers by urging and encouraging them to innovate and excel, which would contribute to raising the economic and industrial status of the State of Kuwait, and raising the international ranking of Kuwait University.
To achieve this, the Patent Office was established on April 30, 2005 under Decision No. (886) issued by the Rector of the University with the aim of taking the necessary legal measures to give legal protection to the inventions reached by members of the university’s academic staff, students and employees, and exploiting them commercially through marketing to have a financial return that contributes to raising the service and societal level of the University of Kuwait and Kuwait in a way general.
