Arango sparks LAFC to 4-1 ‘romp’ over Real Salt Lake

SANDY, Utah, Aug 7, (AP): Cristian Arango scored a goal in each half and Los Angeles FC cruised to a 4-1 victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night.

Arango’s first netter gave LAFC (16-4-3) a 1-0 lead in the 9th minute, but Sergio Córdova answered three minutes later for RSL (9-8-7) to tie the match.

Kellyn Acosta gave LAFC the lead for good with a goal in the 17th minute.

Arango made it 3-1 in the 60th minute with his 11th goal of the season and Gareth Bale capped the scoring in the 87th.

Maxime Crépeau had two saves for LAFC. Zac MacMath saved four shots for RSL.

Gyasi Zardes finished off a hat trick with a goal in the 61st minute to spark the Colorado Rapids to a 4-3 victory over Minnesota United .

Zardes netted his first goal in the 7th minute for Colorado (8-9-6), pulling the Rapids even after Abu Danladi found the net in the 4th minute for Minnesota United (10-9-5).

The Rapids took the lead on Diego Rubio’s goal in the 11th minute and made it 3-1 when Zardes scored his second, four minutes later.

Luis Amarilla’s goal in the 43rd minute got Minnesota within a goal. Defender Brent Kallman scored in the 81st minute after Zardes extended the Rapids’ lead to 4-2.

Rubio’s goal was his 11th of the season. Zardes has six.

William Yarbrough had four saves for Colorado. Dayne St. Clair saved five for Minnesota.

William Agada scored his first two goals of the season and Sporting Kansas City rolled to a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy .

Erik Thommy gave Sporting KC (6-14-5) an early lead with a goal in the 10th minute and Agada added goals in the 40th and the fifth minute of stoppage time to make it 3-0 at halftime. Thommy’s goal was his first.

Javier “Chicarita” Hernández pulled the Galaxy (9-11-3) within 3-2 with a goal in the 83rd minute and another on a penalty kick two minutes into stoppage time. Chicarita is tied for the team lead with nine scores.

Dániel Sallói added an insurance goal his fifth - for Sporting KC in the fifth minute.

John Pulskamp had one save for Sporting KC. Jonathan Bond saved four for the Galaxy.

SOCCER

Jonathan Osorio scored two first-half goals to help Toronto FC hold off Nashville SC 4-3 .

Osorio had goals in the 19th and 44th minutes for Toronto (7-12-5), giving him eight on the season.

Hany Mukhtar scored on a penalty kick in the 41st minute for Nashville (8-8-9) and Teal Bunbury found the net four minutes into stoppage time to knot the score at 2-2 at halftime.

Toronto regained the lead on Federico Bernardesc­hi’s PK score in the 54th minute and Lorenzo Insigne made it 4-2 with a goal in the 77th - his first of the season.

Walker Zimmerman scored in the 84th minute to get Nashville within a goal. Mukhtar has 13 goals this season.

Alex Bono stopped three shots for Toronto. Joe Willis had four saves for Nashville.

Brandon Vázquez, Brenner Souza da Silva and Álvaro Barreal scored second-half goals and FC Cincinnati defeated the Philadelph­ia Union 3-1.

Vázquez put Cincinnati up 1-0 in the 50th minute with his 14th goal of the season and Brenner Souza da Silva pushed the lead to 2-0 with a goal five minutes later. Barreal scored in the 71st minute to cap the scoring for Cincinnati (8-8-8).
