Human growth emphasized

PARIS, Oct 11, (KUNA): The State of Kuwait emphasized Monday that it is going on with firm strides to embody all items and factors of sustainable development, mainly humans’ growth.

This came in Kuwait’s speech during the 215th session of the Executive Council of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which was delivered by Kuwait’s permanent representative to the organization Dr. Adam Al-Mulla.

Under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Kuwait is proceeding with steady steps towards preparing rising generations, Al-Mulla said, referring to the national development plan ‘New Kuwait by 2035’, which embodies all elements and items of sustainable development work, especially in the field of human capital development.

Al-Mulla said that Kuwait spends 12 percent, out of the total expenditure, on education, adding that is one of the highest proporions in the world.

He stated that Kuwait has been aiding the developing countries through several initiatives launched by some institutions like Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development.

He referred to the Education Transformation Summit held last September that aimed at discussing solutions to change education by 2030 and developing education systems to keep pace with and support the transformation in societies.

The summit emphasized the continuation of global mobilization and urged member states and partners to keep education transformation, focusing on tangible actions on the ground, he said.

Kuwait wins a seat of the Executive Council of the UNESCO for 2021-2025 during the 41st general conference.

Reiterated

Meanwhile, the UNESCO Arab group reiterated that the Palestinian cause is central for Arabs.

This came during a speech he delivered by Al-Mulla on behalf of the group.

Al-Mulla said that the Arab group sees the continued silence of the international community and the organization against the sufferings and tragedy of Palestinians and the historical injustice lead to more erosion in the international system, its institutions and foundations, and consolidate the apartheid regime in Palestine, and the occupied Arab territories, including the Golan Heights.

He pointed out that the Arab group condemns, in the strongest terms, the Israeli settlers and extremists’ storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque that are carried out daily under the supervision, organization and protection of the occupation forces against Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Al-Mulla considered this escalation as an integral part of the processes of Judaizing Jerusalem and attempts to annex the city to the occupying state, change the city’s features and its legal, historical and demographic position.

ROME: Kuwait on Monday said it supports efforts of the UN Committee on World Food Security (CFS) to deal with a world food crisis driven by the Russia-Ukraine war, which sparked disruptions to grain and fertilizer supplies.

International organizations and countries alike need to step up cooperation to maintain adequate global food security, Kuwait’s ambassador to Italy Nasser Al-Qahtani told CFS talks at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization.

He underlined the critical juncture at which the talks are taking place, in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and amidst the Russia-Ukraine conflict, both of which caused prices for basic food staples to soar.
