UNHCR boasts of partnership with Kuwait for relieving people in need Govt plans to put commercial belts on outskirts of new housing areas
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 12: There is a government tendency to establish a commercial belt on the outskirts of the new housing cities to establish commercial, recreational and educational activities to provide services to the residents of those cities and implement the concept of an integrated city, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The same sources indicated that the plan to establish the commercial belt, which has been completed, will be applied first to the city of Sabah Al-Ahmad, and then to all new cities, including the city of South Sa’ad AlAbdullah and the residential city of Al-Mutla’a, and other new cities to be developed later.
The sources confirmed that the commercial belt will be planned to allow the establishment of many commercial activities, which the residents of those cities need, such as commercial complexes, shopping centers and private health clinics, in addition to allocating sites for the establishment of educational projects such as private schools and nurseries.
This is in addition to allocating places for the establishment of recreational projects, noting the belt will be concerned with providing a package of services that are directly related to the quality of the daily life of the citizen.
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 12, (KUNA): Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Kuwait Nisreen Rubaiaan has boasted of the partnership with the State of Kuwait and government departments the local associations.
Kuwait has set a live example of mankind solidarity with the weakest peoples in and outside the country, she said in a statement, addressing “the Islamic charitable gathering for refugees and the displaced,” held at the UN House in the country.
Islamic funding to the UNHCR philanthropic projects has been soaring for years, accounting to 92 percent of the contributions, Rubaian revealed, affirming that coordination with the Kuwaiti Islamic charities has been increasing.
Up to 800,000 persons in several countries, namely Mauritania, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and India have benefited from the Kuwaiti donations, the UN representative added.
The UNHCR declared release of the bi-annual report about the Islamic charities, shedding light on the impact of these contributions on peoples’ life.
Meanwhile, Tareq Al-Yassin, the representative of the Ambassador Hamad Al-Meshaan, the assistant foreign minister for development and international cooperation, recalled that Kuwait had been designated by the UN as the center for humanitarian action, owing to its eminent status on the global map of humanitarian aid.
Al-Yassin affirmed that the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been helping to boost the Kuwaiti associations’ partnerships with international agencies for helping the needy and securing assistance to remote regions of the globe.
For his part, Khaled Khalifa, the UNHCR regional representative, indicated that the bi-annual report, released during the event, chronicles the UNHCR activities between January and June 2022, during which 1,200 million people had been aided. Since this program launch in 2019, more than 5.5 million people had received assistance.
Dr. Majed Al-Azmi, the representative of the Minister of Awqaf, diplomats, representatives of international and regional agencies, attended the event.
