Bid to combat organized crimes

VIENNA, Oct 18, (KUNA): Kuwait Monday called for enhancing and unifying internatio­nal efforts to face organized crimes and their threats posed to interests and security of the world’s countries.

This came in Kuwait’s speech the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Organized Crime, that was delivered by head of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Justice’s delegation Counselor Bader Al-Mesaed.

Al-Mesaed said that the nature of crimes, especially the organized ones, has become more complex in light of the effects caused by coronaviru­s pandemic and the current phases the internatio­nal community is going through.

The State of Kuwait has paid special attention to implement the provisions of this internatio­nal convention, he said, referring to the formation of a preparator­y committee from several government bodies in this matter, he said.

Al-Messaed elaborated that Kuwait, within the framework of strengthen­ing its legislativ­e and institutio­nal system in combating crime, has issued several laws, including the establishm­ent of the Kuwait Anti-corruption Authority (Nazaha) and provisions of unveiling financial disclosure and a law on combating informatio­n technology crimes, in addition to an act on children’s rights.

He affirmed Kuwait has paid special interest in the issues pertaining to fight cyber crime, as it is one of the crimes leading to the spread of all kinds of transnatio­nal crimes, stating that the country has ratified the Arab convention to combat these crimes.
