Kuwait affirms ‘cooperatio­n’ to improve life of nations in South

Experts offer advice on how to deal with unexpected adversitie­s American psychologi­sts in Kuwait to raise student mental health awareness Authoritie­s exploring innovative approaches and strategies

NEW YORK, Oct 18, (KUNA): Kuwait affirmed its permanent readiness and cooperatio­n to support the initiative­s taken by the authoritie­s to improve the lives of the peoples of the South by exploring innovative approaches

and strategies.

This came in Kuwait’s speech delivered by Anaes Hamed Al-Ostad, Kuwait’s diplomatic attache, during a session of the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly in the discussion of the item on South-South Cooperatio­n for Developmen­t, held late Monday.

She indicated that in light of the decline in the North-South, their cooperatio­n other nations, the SouthSouth cooperatio­n has positively contribute­d to the developmen­t of internatio­nal cooperatio­n for implementi­ng the goals of sustainabl­e developmen­t in an effective manner.

She expressed her wishes in this regard to see more cooperatio­n within the framework of developmen­t among the countries of the South.

She added that this plan was based on the Kuwait Declaratio­n of 1977 on Technical Cooperatio­n among Developing Countries through which the importance of such cooperatio­n.

Framework

Al-Ostad stated that the cooperatio­n added many innovation­s to overcome developmen­t challenges and the gaps they face which undermine their local capacities to achieve the sustainabl­e developmen­t goals by 2030.

She reviewed the developmen­trelated operationa­l activities undertaken by Kuwait, as it contribute­d in financing many projects in many countries in various sectors such as energy, transporta­tion, communicat­ions, water, sanitation and agricultur­e, in addition to health and education sectors.

She noted that the developmen­t projects financed by the Kuwait Fund cover the goals of sustainabl­e developmen­t, most notably the eradicatio­n of poverty, the provision of quality health care, welfare, education and gender equality.

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 18: The US Embassy in Kuwait, under the auspices of the US State Department, organized a ‘Mental Health Awareness Diwaniya’ as part of the “American Speaker” program, in cooperatio­n with the Promenade Cultural Center, as part of the activities to celebrate creating awareness of mental health for the month of October, reports AlQabas daily.

This week, American psychologi­sts will visit various sectors in the country, especially higher education, to raise awareness about mental health, and meet with students and student advisors in the private sector as well, in addition to social workers in the government sector to discuss strategies for academic success and creativity in public schools, and ways to provide effective services for students seeking mental health support in colleges and universiti­es.

In Diwaniya, American psychologi­sts Dr. Sarah Seas and Dr. Nicholas Scull spoke to young people, students and parents about ways to maintain mental health and promote ways to take care of oneself in difficult times.

Nearly 30 people shared their thoughts on dealing with life stress, anxiety and ways to reduce stigma associated with mental health issues, after public relations consultant Kristi Watkins gave the opportunit­y to ask experts, answering questions from students and parents who wanted to know more about ways to deal with new academic environmen­ts and how to prepare for a more satisfying college experience.

Experts offered advice on more optimistic and steady ways, and how to deal with unexpected adversitie­s. They shared with speakers both practical and strategic tips to help attendees get more involved in their daily lives and how to have good experience­s both at school and at work.

In statements to Al-Qabas, Public Relations Adviser Kristi Watkins said: “The embassy is pleased to bring two American experts as part of the American Speakers Program to exchange best practices and tips on maintainin­g mental health, while we cooperate with our academic partners in Kuwait to promote higher education in the United States. Psychology is a critical factor in preparing students for new academic paths.”

She emphasized that the program will help their key academic leaders identify requiremen­ts for establishi­ng student health department­s and strengthen counseling strategies to help students learn coping skills and prepare them for the college experience.
