Kuwait affirms ‘cooperation’ to improve life of nations in South

NEW YORK, Oct 18, (KUNA): Kuwait affirmed its permanent readiness and cooperation to support the initiatives taken by the authorities to improve the lives of the peoples of the South by exploring innovative approaches
and strategies.
This came in Kuwait’s speech delivered by Anaes Hamed Al-Ostad, Kuwait’s diplomatic attache, during a session of the Second Committee of the United Nations General Assembly in the discussion of the item on South-South Cooperation for Development, held late Monday.
She indicated that in light of the decline in the North-South, their cooperation other nations, the SouthSouth cooperation has positively contributed to the development of international cooperation for implementing the goals of sustainable development in an effective manner.
She expressed her wishes in this regard to see more cooperation within the framework of development among the countries of the South.
She added that this plan was based on the Kuwait Declaration of 1977 on Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries through which the importance of such cooperation.
Framework
Al-Ostad stated that the cooperation added many innovations to overcome development challenges and the gaps they face which undermine their local capacities to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030.
She reviewed the developmentrelated operational activities undertaken by Kuwait, as it contributed in financing many projects in many countries in various sectors such as energy, transportation, communications, water, sanitation and agriculture, in addition to health and education sectors.
She noted that the development projects financed by the Kuwait Fund cover the goals of sustainable development, most notably the eradication of poverty, the provision of quality health care, welfare, education and gender equality.
KUWAIT CITY, Oct 18: The US Embassy in Kuwait, under the auspices of the US State Department, organized a ‘Mental Health Awareness Diwaniya’ as part of the “American Speaker” program, in cooperation with the Promenade Cultural Center, as part of the activities to celebrate creating awareness of mental health for the month of October, reports AlQabas daily.
This week, American psychologists will visit various sectors in the country, especially higher education, to raise awareness about mental health, and meet with students and student advisors in the private sector as well, in addition to social workers in the government sector to discuss strategies for academic success and creativity in public schools, and ways to provide effective services for students seeking mental health support in colleges and universities.
In Diwaniya, American psychologists Dr. Sarah Seas and Dr. Nicholas Scull spoke to young people, students and parents about ways to maintain mental health and promote ways to take care of oneself in difficult times.
Nearly 30 people shared their thoughts on dealing with life stress, anxiety and ways to reduce stigma associated with mental health issues, after public relations consultant Kristi Watkins gave the opportunity to ask experts, answering questions from students and parents who wanted to know more about ways to deal with new academic environments and how to prepare for a more satisfying college experience.
Experts offered advice on more optimistic and steady ways, and how to deal with unexpected adversities. They shared with speakers both practical and strategic tips to help attendees get more involved in their daily lives and how to have good experiences both at school and at work.

In statements to Al-Qabas, Public Relations Adviser Kristi Watkins said: “The embassy is pleased to bring two American experts as part of the American Speakers Program to exchange best practices and tips on maintaining mental health, while we cooperate with our academic partners in Kuwait to promote higher education in the United States. Psychology is a critical factor in preparing students for new academic paths.”
She emphasized that the program will help their key academic leaders identify requirements for establishing student health departments and strengthen counseling strategies to help students learn coping skills and prepare them for the college experience.
