Gearing up for rain:
The Civil Defense Committee held a meeting on Wednesday in implementation of instructions by the commission chairman Sheikh Talal Khaled Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to prepare for forthcoming rain season.
Sheikh Talal Khaled is also the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.
Officials and personnel who took part in the meeting, headed by Director General of the Civil Defense, examined preparations to cope with prospected rainfalls and possible flash floods. They also examined readiness of State departments AND mechanisms of response to help calls, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior. (KUNA)
Yemeni FM congrats:
Kuwait Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has received a phone call from Yemeni foreign minister Dr. Ahmad bin Mubarak who congratulated him on assuming his post. Bin Mubarak wished Sheikh Salem best of luck and success, and for further progress of relations between Kuwait and Yemen. (KUNA)
Awqaf launches contest:
Secretary General of Kuwait Awqaf Public Foundation Saqer Al-Sejari announced on Wednesday the launch of the 13th International contest for Waqf Research under the patronage of His Highness the Deputy Amir and the Crown Prince Sheikh Mishal AlAhmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
Al-Sejari said that the competition is part of the 16 coordinated projects being implemented by the Secretariat with several authorities worldwide, most notably the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah.
He noted that the competition aims to encourage the scientific research process by raising the spirit of scientific competition and highlighting the endowment system and making it a priority for researchers, individuals and institutions, stressing that the research topics presented need further study due to their significance and importance.
On his part, Representative of the Supervision Committee Dr. Adel Al-Mutairat said that the number of participants reached 340 researchers from all over the world.
Al-Mutairat noted that the prize pool for the contest reached USD 45,000 (around KD 13,960) divided to three divisions, the 1st prize worth USD 6,000 (around KD 1,858), 2nd worth USD 5,000 (around KD 1,548) and the 3rd worth USD 4,000 (around KD 1,240).

Aussie move welcomed:
Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry on Wednesday welcomed Australia’s move to cancel its former government’s recognition of West Jerusalem as the alleged capital of the Israeli occupation.
This decision constitutes support for international endeavors, adherence to international law and relevant United Nations resolutions and acts as a tributary to achieving just and comprehensive peace, the ministry explained.
Kuwait also called on countries that recognised Jerusalem as the alleged capital of the Israeli occupation to take the similar step of reversing their decision that violates international legitimacy. (KUNA)
