Beach cleaning campaign kicks off on Nov 1 under eyes of diving team

Plastic waste, fish nets targeted: Al-Ansari

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 30: The Public Authority for Youth in embarking on a national campaign to clean the beaches from the beginning of next November and will continue until February 2023 and will be supervised by the Kuwaiti diving team, reports Al-Rai daily.

Director of the Voluntary Work Department at the authority, Waleed Al-Ansari, said in a press statement, Saturday, the campaign includes cleaning the coastal areas of Kuwait by volunteers to remove a lot of plastic waste and neglected fishing nets.

Al-Ansari added that this national campaign is a unique opportunit­y for voluntary work in the State of Kuwait and the availabili­ty of voluntary opportunit­ies for Kuwaiti youth wishing to contribute to voluntary environmen­tal campaigns.

He called on young volunteers wishing to participat­e in the campaign to register on the authority’s website through the “Our Hands” portal.

He also called on government schools at the primary stage to participat­e in the campaign to enrich the cultural and environmen­tal awareness of school students.

Program

For his part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Environmen­tal Volunteer Foundation, Walid Al-Fadhel, said the diving team has prepared an interestin­g cultural program to be presented to the participat­ing school students and within field and practical roles to consolidat­e the love of volunteer work and active participat­ion.

Al-Fadhel explained that this initiative is among the many projects undertaken by the team to protect the marine environmen­t, secure the shipping lanes and save marine life through operations represente­d in the removal of waste such as discarded fishing nets, rubble, plastic waste, wood, bottles and tires, due to the pollution they cause to the marine environmen­t, danger to sea-goers and an obstacle to the navigation­al lanes.

He stated that the campaign seeks to spread environmen­tal awareness to preserve natural wealth through mobile awareness campaigns that contribute to raising environmen­tal awareness of the community in general.

He indicated that the initiative of the National Project for the Protection of the Kuwaiti Marine Environmen­t is continuing to clean Kuwaiti beaches and islands in order to remove these harmful wastes and educate sea-goers and fishermen about the need to take care of the marine environmen­t.

2 services launched: Youssef Kazem, the spokesman for the unified government electronic services applicatio­n “Sahel” announced the Ministry of Health has launched two new services from the General Medical Council, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Kazem explained that the two new services are represente­d in the “medical examinatio­n service for appointmen­ts” and “the service of submitting a request to a medical committee”, which are now available to users of the applicatio­n through the list of “services” of the Ministry of Health, so that a citizen can submit a medical examinatio­n request for new appointees directly through the “Sahel” applicatio­n as well as submit a request for a medical committee based on a letter from the employer or the result of the medical committee.

Kazem praised the continuous efforts of the Ministry of Health to add new electronic services to users through the easy applicatio­n, which contribute­s to enhancing the users’ experience of the applicatio­n in an easier and more flexible manner.
