‘PAY supports Kuwaiti youth ideas’

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: The Director General of the Public Authority for Youth, Dr. Mishaal Al-Shaheen Al-Rubaie, said the authority is keen to support and nurture the ideas of Kuwaiti youth that contribute to protecting the environmen­t and reducing consumptio­n rates as an essential part of sustainabl­e developmen­t, reports Al-Qabas daily.

He said this during a panel discussion under the title “Developing Creative Human Capital”, which was held on the sidelines of the First National Urban Forum of Kuwait under the slogan “Partners in Sustainabl­e Urban Developmen­t” organized by the United Nations Human Settlement­s Program (Habitat) in cooperatio­n with the General Secretaria­t of the Supreme Council for Planning and developmen­t.

Al-Rubaie stated that the authority’s role in developing human capital comes within the “New Kuwait 2035” vision, and is represente­d in the implementa­tion of 14 projects related to several fields, including developmen­t, employment, environmen­t, technology, renewable energy and sports, pointing to the inclusion of seven of these projects in the government’s work program.

He stated that Kuwait occupies the first place in the Arab world in the field of youth developmen­t and the 27th globally, pointing to the possibilit­y of reaching the first place globally due to the great capabiliti­es and potentials of Kuwaiti youth and the material and moral support provided by the government to them.

He referred to the environmen­tal project in which high school students participat­ed in the recycling of leaves to be planted again as plants that support the urban environmen­t, stressing the authority’s keenness to support such ideas to see the light and be an essential tributary of sustainabl­e developmen­t.

In turn, the head of the mission of the United Nations Human Settlement­s Program (Habitat) for the Arab Gulf states to Kuwait, Dr. Amira El-Hassan The forum aims to review progress made with regard to Kuwait’s strategy in implementi­ng the sustainabl­e developmen­t goals.

Al-Hassan added that the forum also aims to focus on the work carried out by the State of Kuwait in the new urban plan, noting that it is a global plan that is renewed every 20 years starting in 2016.
