Court rejects appeal in rape bid
‘Convict mentally sane while committing crime’
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 5: The Court of Cassation rejected the appeal submitted by an individual, who is serving a sentence of 15 years with hard labor, after being convicted of sexually assaulting a Russian woman who was exercising on a walkway in Salwa area.
The accused was referred to trial after the Public Prosecution charged him with sexually assaulting the victim on April 13, 2020. He was previously convicted by a court ruling issued during the year 2017 to a sentence of five-year imprisonment in another case.
The Public Prosecution attributed to the accused that he proceeded to assaulting and raping the victim by choking her, beating her and pinning her resistance, causing her injuries described in the forensic medical report.
During the court session, the defense counsel of the Russian Embassy Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan affirmed that the elements of initiating the crime of coercion against the accused were available, and all the actions that constituted the material and moral pillars of the crime were present.
He stressed that it was proven beyond any reasonable doubt that the accused had committed the crime attributed against him but the accused tried to deny the charges, claiming that he was unaware of his actions and behavior as he was insane. However, lawyer Al-Qattan said the submitted reports proved that his mental health at the time of the crime was sound.
Drug pills with Kuwaiti: The Nuwaiseeb customs officers have arrested an unidentified Kuwaiti for attempting to leave the country with Lyrica pills, reports Al-Rai daily.
The daily added, the pills were found hidden in his personal belongings. He has been referred to the competent authorities.
Pistol, rounds seized: Al-Nuwaiseeb Customs officers have arrested a citizen from an unidentified Gulf country for attempting to smuggle into the country a pistol and ammunition which were hidden in the décor of his vehicle, reports Al-Rai daily.
The suspect and the contraband have been referred to the concerned authority for necessary action.
Drug peddlers held: Personnel from the Criminal Security Sector of the Directorate-General for Drugs Control have taken into custody two men for trafficking in drugs, reports Al-Rai daily.
The daily quoting the Public Relations and Security Media Department of the Ministry of Interior said the accused have been referred with the seizures, which consisted of a kilogram of cannabis, a quarter of a kilogram of shabu, 5 strips of Lyrica pills, and two sensitive electronic scales to the competent authority.
60 graduates endorsed: The Supreme Judicial Council has endorsed 60 graduates, including 13 women, who applied for the junior legal researcher post at Kuwait Institute for Judicial and Legal Studies, reports Al-Jarida daily.
On its Twitter account, the Public Prosecution said this is a prelude to the appointment of these graduates as agents at the prosecution; that is, after completing the required legal researcher course.
Kuwait force for Qatar: The Ministry of Interior announced that a special security force has left for Doha to help the Qatari security forces to maintain law and order during the soccer World Cup 2022 competition in Qatar, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The Kuwaiti security forces form part of 13 other countries of the 60 countries that had applied to secure the tournament.
The Assistant Undersecretary for Private Security and Correctional Institutions, Major General Abdullah Safah Al Mulla, in the presence of the Director-General of the Special Security Forces, Brigadier Abdulaziz AlArefan, and the Assistant Director-General, Brigadier General Abdulwahab Al-Yaqout, held a meeting with the force before its departure to the Qatari capital, Doha.
