PAHW signs KD26m deal for ‘S3 project’
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 10: The Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) has signed a contract with an undisclosed company for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of Sabah Al-Ahmad City (S3 project) at a cost of KD26 million, reports Annahar daily.
According to PAHW, the project includes a hotel and commercial complex – Kuwaiti market style, and that construction and development will take three years; while the period for operating the project is 32 years.
PAHW explained this is a traditional market with an urban heritage area of 40,000 square meters; consisting of retail stores, commercial and recreational spaces, cafés and restaurants. It added the city will be a central commercial and service area enriching the southern part of the country.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Abdulaziz Al-Mojel has approved the recommendation of the Technical Committee in the Municipal Council that Kuwait Municipality should consult the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) before issuing permits for the demolition of government buildings, which were constructed more than 40 years ago, reports Annahar daily.
This came after the minister approved the minutes of Municipal Council meeting number 6/2022 held on Oct 10, during which an agreement was reached that the Municipality will not issue the abovementioned permits without consulting NCCAL as per the amended Antiquities Law of 1960 and the need to strictly implement security, safety and firefighting regulations in historical and heritage buildings and sites.
