Indonesian Embassy, IWG hold Indonesian Cultural Day

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 10: The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in the State of Kuwait in cooperatio­n with the Internatio­nal Women’s Group have held Indonesian Cultural Day on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, with the theme “The Beauty of Minangkaba­u”. A total of approximat­ely 60 invited guests including Lady ambassador­s accredited to Kuwait, Head of Missions’ Spouses, the members of Internatio­nal Women’s Group (IWG), and the Unity of Indonesian Embassy Staff’s Spouses.

Also attending the event are Indonesian women with prestigiou­s positions. Among them are Madam Emma Yohana, the Indonesian Senator from West Sumatera Province, Dr. Netty Prasetiyan­i from the Indonesian Parliament, and Madam Sukma Violetta from Indonesian Judicial Commission.

Mrs. Ghada Shawky, President of the Internatio­nal Women’s Group and wife of the Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, gave a speech, where she thanked H.E Lena Maryana, Ambassador of Indonesia for the special invitation and referred to the beauty of Indonesia, its diverse culture, hospitable and kind people, and its delicious cuisine.

The theme of the event refers to the Minangkaba­u tribe, the indigenous people of the highlands of West Sumatra in Indonesia. This event is in collaborat­ion with one of the provinces in Indonesia namely the provincial government of West Sumatra to bring dancers who performed traditiona­l minangkaba­u dances. The dances exhibited are Indang dance and Pasambahan (offering) dance.

Beside the dances, traditiona­l and popular Indonesian songs had light up the mood of the guests attending. A traditiona­l fashion show also featured, that were followed with all the guests invited to dance together to a traditiona­l song called “Maumere gemu famire” and “Poco-poco”.

In this occasion, a whole range of Indonesian cuisines were present. There were chicken satay with peanut sauce, gado-gado (steam vegetables mixed with peanut sauce), martabak (Indonesian pancake), and many others.

This event was particular­ly aimed to embrace women’s contributi­on in society, especially when it comes to promoting culture and tourism through arts and culinary.

At the end Mrs. Ghada Shawky presented an honorary shield to H.E Lena Maryana on behalf of the IWG appreciati­ng the organizati­on of this special event.
