Power Panthers pip Mighty Mustangs in IDAK-KDD Basketball Tournament

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 13: The IDAKKDD basketball tournament was successful­ly conducted at the Dasman Bilingual School, Al Asimah, on Oct 21. Kuwaiti Danish Dairy Co. (KDD) were the official sponsors of the event and Anand Harith, Business Systems Manager of KDD was the Chief Guest for the event. Anand along with IDAK’s President – Dr Thomas Thomas met the captains of both the teams – Dr. Jagan Kumar representi­ng the “Mighty Mustangs” and Dr. Manoj Koshy representi­ng the “Power Panthers”.

Power Panthers were unstoppabl­e right from the beginning, with Dr Chris George spear heading the attack. Mighty Mustangs were clearly outclassed by the duo team of Dr Chris and Dr Manoj, and the final score was 19-46 in favour of the Power Panthers.

The captains of both teams were the top scorers for their respective teams with Dr Jagan scoring 9 points for Mighty Mustangs and Dr Manoj of Power Panthers scoring 19 points. Dr Chris George received the best player award.

Teams

The women’s basketball match was more evenly matched where both the teams fought tooth and nail to get an upper hand. The spirited and pumped-up Power Panthers brushed past Mighty Mustangs 3-2. Basketball tournament, Power Panthers have jumped to the top position in the points tally of the IDAK-KDD Sports Championsh­ip 2022-23 with 37 points, closely followed by Mighty Mustangs with 31 points.

Competitio­n

IDAK kids had free-throw competitio­n for children above 10 years and a basketball-relay race for kids under 10 years. For the free throw match, Jayden won the first prize, Kevin and Johan bagged the 2nd and 3rd prize, respective­ly. Another highlight for the evening was the “Lucky draw”sponsored by Kerala Ayurvedic Centre (Salmiya), which was won by Hansika and Haseena.

Anand KDD gave away the trophies to the winners. Mina Issac of Elgydium distribute­d gift bags to the winners. Dr Shamlan AlQenaie, of Kuwait University Faculty Associatio­n (KUFA) was specially thanked for supporting IDAK’s sports activities and for arranging the venue for the event.

The games of the day were controlled by referee Sadheesh Subramania­n, who is working as the Physical Education teacher in Indian Community School, Kuwait and Nikhil Varughese, who is working as Biomedical engineer at Gulf Advanced Trading company.

IDAK Sports Committee led by Dr. Anjana Aneef was applauded for meticulous­ly planning the event which was attended by over 100 members and children.
