MoH discounts fear of cholera spread
KUWAIT CITY, Nov 27: The Ministry of Health has brushed off the possibility of cholera spreading in the country, after the detection of an infected case, the day before yesterday, of a citizen returning from Iraq -- the country suffering from the outbreak of the disease -- and his detention and those who came in contact with him according to the approved protocols, and their follow-up to ensure their safety and ensure that they do not transmit the infection to others, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The ministry stressed that “the situation is reassuring and under control, and there is no change in the procedures related to travel, with the continuation of precautionary measures, in anticipation of any emergency.”
The Ministry of Health confirmed that the chances of cholera spreading in the country are “out of the question”, stressing the importance of citizens and residents taking caution when traveling to any country where the epidemic is spreading, and making sure to avoid sources of drinking water and unsafe food.
The ministry called on people who show symptoms such as diarrhea and severe fever, within 7 days of their arrival from a country where the disease is spreading, to go to the nearest health center to receive the necessary advice and treatment.
The sources stated that the situation in the country is reassuring and under control, and there is no change in the procedures related to travel, with the continuation of precautionary measures, in anticipation of any emergency, pointing to the continuation of coordination with the health authorities in neighboring countries, to ward off any potential risks to Kuwait.
The sources pointed out that “cholera” was endemic in areas where wars, epidemics and famines abound, and it has spread in some Arab countries recently, such as Iraq, Lebanon and Syria, indicating that it usually appears in residential areas that suffer from a scarcity of drinking water or lack of sewage networks which is not the case in Kuwait.
