Kuwait tops in 1 person power use

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 28: After Kuwait recorded one of the highest per capita water consumption rates in the world, amounting to approximately 100 imperial gallons per day despite its water scarcity, Kuwait has now set a record in the per capita electricity consumption rate during the year 2021, as the rate of increase in the electricity consumption reached 15.9 percent with a daily per capita consumption rate of 45.1 kilowatt-hour. It thus has broken its previous record of 13.2 percent, recorded in 1993, with an estimated 30.6 kilowatt-hour per day.

According to a local report, the per capita consumption of the energy exported from the stations was calculated without deducting the losses from the exported energy.

Informed sources urged officials of the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy to study the reasons for the high rates of per capita electricity consumption, which costs the state huge sums of money to provide through the oil that the ministry buys to operate the production stations and in light of the current high oil prices.

They called for activating rationalization policies and campaigns in all locations, in addition to obliging the concerned authorities to construct buildings with insulation that are compatible with energy saving standards.

The sources indicated that most old buildings do not have insulation mechanisms, which contributes to an increase in energy consumption through the continuous operation of air conditioning, which consumes 70 percent of the produced electricity.
