Council member, mediator get 10 yrs jail with hard labor; fined KD 360,000
Police officer, assistants given 5 years jail; one dies in accident
KUWAIT CITY, March 21: The Criminal Court sentenced a member of the Municipal Council and a mediator to 10 years in prison with hard labor and fined them KD 360,000 for bribery, in addition to a businessman who was sentenced to five years imprisonment, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The Public Prosecution charged the defendants with bribery as they agreed to complete two transactions for an undisclosed company in exchange for KD 180,000.
Meanwhile, the Misdemeanor Court recently sentenced a police officer with the rank of major and his assistants to five years in prison for assaulting two prosecutors, reports Al-Jarida daily.

One person died and another was injured following a collision between two cruisers off Fintas Monday evening, reports Al-Rai daily.

Hashish seized
The Customs officials at the Kuwait International Airport foiled the attempt of an Asian person to smuggle a quarter kilo of hashish into the country, reports Al-Rai daily.
Airport customs inspector Muhammad Al-Othaina stated that an expatriate of Asian was arrested after he tried to smuggle two pieces of hashish by hiding in his personal luggage.
The Director of the Airports Customs Department, Osama Al-Shami, was present to supervise the seizure process, and the accused was referred with the seized items to the competent authorities.
Department of the General Fire Force stated that a report was received by the Central Operations Department stating that there had been a collision between two cruisers off the Fintas area, and immediately the Shuaiba Maritime Rescue Center was sent to the site of the accident.
The sources added that the accident resulted in the death of one person and the injury of another, and that the corpse and the injured person were handed over to the competent authorities.

The Public Prosecution has ordered the detention of a citizen who surrendered to Ali Sabah Al-Salem Suburb Police Station where he admitted killing a compatriot, reports Al-Qabas daily.
According to the citizen, he used a knife to stab the victim who was in his vehicle, buried the body in the desert and burned the vehicle. The prosecution started investigations, visited the crime scene and instructed the Forensics Department to examine the body.
During interrogation, the citizen disclosed that he committed the heinous crime due to personal disputes with the victim.

File referred to prosecution: The South Surra police station has referred the file of an Egyptian employee working for the Palace of Justice to the Public Prosecution, for tampering with the value of transaction stamps and leaking information related to his employer, reports AlAnba daily.
According to the daily the case papers show several transactions bore forged stamps and others with stamps less than the due fees. During investigation the suspect is said to have admitted to the charges filed against him.

Illegal activity: Al-Qabas has learned that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has received many complaints about advertisements in the social media promoting illegal businesses.
The sources stated that the Ministry’s Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector was able to close a number of fake accounts in cooperation with the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA).
The sources pointed out that the complaints received by the ministry consisted of granting of ‘cash’ to citizens and residents in exchange for them accepting the use of their civil ID to buy smartphones from companies and shops.
