Kuwait women’s cricket team ‘gears’ up for the ACC Women’s Premier Cup T20I Al-Amer claims victory in Dressage Champ’ship

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 4: Jockey Abdullah Al-Amer secured the top spot in the intermedia­te level with an impressive 63 percent score during the inaugural Abdullah Walid Al-Osaimi Horse Dressage Championsh­ip. The event, held at Al-Osaimi’s stable, witnessed intense competitio­n among male and female riders vying for the coveted title, with Youssef Al-Nuaimi following closely in second place.

In the third category, jockey Mandy Grotgood claimed the first position, while in the basic level, jockey Alia Al-Hunaidi emerged victorious. Jockey Afnan Al-Sulaiman showcased exceptiona­l skills, clinching the top spot in the training round. The awards were presented by tournament sponsor Jockey Abdullah Al-Osaimi, along with Jockey Sheikha Fajr Al-Sabah and Jockey Alaa Al-Sultan.

The “dressage” committee, led by horsewoman Fajr Al-Sabah, comprised internatio­nal dressage coach and technical officer Amber Den Heer, Abdullah Al-Awadhi, Abdullah Al-Amer, Alaa Al-Sultan, Nasiba AlMaousher­ji, and Dana Bouresli.

Equestrian Sheikha Fajr Al-Sabah expressed gratitude for the growing support and sponsorshi­p from the private sector in nurturing this emerging sport. She emphasized the intention to organize a local dressage championsh­ip monthly, showcasing the commitment to the sport’s developmen­t.

Horsewoman Alaa Al-Sultan praised the active role played by the private sector in supporting Kuwaiti equestrian sports and commended Abdullah Al-Osaimi for his dedication to fellow horsemen.

Equestrian Alia Al-Hunaidi conveyed her joy about the enjoyable competitiv­e atmosphere in the tournament, organized and sponsored by Abdullah Al-Osaimi. She expressed a desire to see more events of this nature to further bolster support for equestrian­s.

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 4: Kuwait Cricket Club is the official governing body for the game of cricket in associatio­n with Public Authority of Sports, Olympic Committee of Kuwait and the Internatio­nal Cricket Council (ICC – the world’s governing body for cricket) and Asian Cricket Council (ACC – Operating under ICC).

Kuwait National Women’s team sponsored by Al Muzaini Exchange and led by Captain Amna Sharif departed for Kuala Lumpur to participat­ing in the 2024 ACC Women’s Premier Cup T20I scheduled for 9th – 18th February 2024. Malaysian Cricket Associatio­n (MCA) will be

hosting this tournament across four (4) venues in the country. The tournament comprises teams from Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Nepal, Hong Kong, China, Myanmar, Bhutan, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, Singapore, Japan, Qatar and Maldives with four (4) groups of four (4) teams each will be competing against each other in a single round-robin group stage format, following which the top two (2) teams in each of the groups will advance to the quarterfin­als.

The winner and the runners-up in the Premier Cup will qualify for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2024 tournament, set to take place in July. The four (4) semifinali­sts from the Premier Cup will qualify for the ACC Women’s Emerging Asia Cup 2025 tournament. All matches in the tournament will carry ICC team ranking points. Women’s teams of Japan and Indonesia will be taking part as special invitees, as announced by ACC in 2022 towards their pathway tournament­s for 2023 and 2024.

The Kuwait National Women’s team, arrived early in Malaysia on February 2nd, will engage in a 3 T20I bilateral series on February 4th, 5th, and 6th as part of their preparatio­ns for the ACC Women’s T20 Premier Cup.
