Russia, Kuwait ties profound, robust, historic: ambassador
KUWAIT CITY, March 3: The Russian Ambassador to Kuwait, Vladimir Zhiltov, underscored the profound and enduring nature of Russian-Kuwaiti relations during a recent gathering. Zhiltov hailed these ties as both robust and steeped in history, tracing back to 1963 when Kuwait became Russia’s inaugural ally in the Arabian Gulf region, reports Al-Rai daily.
Speaking on the sidelines of the embassy’s commemoration of “Defenders of the Homeland” Day, Zhiltov emphasized the resilience of bilateral relations over the past six decades, crediting the sagacity of Kuwaiti leadership. He expressed Russia’s pride in sustaining these ties, noting the presence of Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Army, Brigadier General Fawaz Khudair AlHarbi, and Brigadier General Fahd AlOtaibi among other dignitaries.
Addressing queries on defense collaboration, Zhiltov asserted that Russia remains receptive to Kuwaiti proposals aimed at bolstering cooperation in this domain.
Turning to the significance of “Defenders
of the Fatherland” Day, Zhiltov elucidated its historical roots dating back to 1918. He underscored its status as a revered national holiday in Russia, honoring the valor of the Russian military personnel across various fronts, including Ukraine.
Colonel Shmatov Alexei, the Russian military, air, and naval attaché at the Embassy, lauded the military and defense ties between both nations. He commended Kuwait’s prudent stance concerning the Ukraine crisis, highlighting the pivotal role of robust and modern armed forces in safeguarding national security and sovereignty.
Reflecting on the occasion, Colonel Alexei extolled the day as a testament to the heroic legacy of Russian armed forces and naval personnel. He emphasized the unbreakable bond spanning generations of defenders and expressed gratitude to those who sacrificed in defense of their homeland and people.
Colonel Alexei also recalled Russia’s decisive role in World War II, underscoring the immense sacrifices made to combat fascism, including the loss of over 27 million lives.
