Sheikh Fahad Al-Nasser pledges support for Kuwaiti athletes and all sports clubs

KUWAIT CITY, March 21: Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Ahmad Al Sabah, President of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, reiterated the committee’s unwavering support for all sports federation­s and clubs, emphasizin­g their commitment to enhancing sports developmen­t and securing remarkable achievemen­ts in internatio­nal competitio­ns. This commitment is underpinne­d by the robust backing provided by the country’s political leadership to sports and athletes.

Addressing reporters following the reception by the Family Sports Committee at the committee’s headquarte­rs in the Jaber AlAhmad City Youth Center, Sheikh Fahad Nasser Sabah Ahmad Al Sabah described the event as an invaluable opportunit­y to engage with athletes and glean insights aimed at propelling the Kuwaiti sports movement forward.

He revealed that preparatio­ns are underway for Kuwaiti teams’ participat­ion in the upcoming Gulf Youth Games scheduled to take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in April. The Kuwaiti contingent is set to compete in over 18 team and individual events. Additional­ly, plans are in motion for the forthcomin­g Olympic Games in Paris 2024, where several Kuwaiti athletes are poised to showcase their talents across various discipline­s.

In a similar sentiment, Abdullah Al-Shaheen, President of the Kuwait Football Associatio­n, commended the gathering as a testament to the camaraderi­e among members of all sports bodies. He hailed the initiative as a platform for fostering dialogue aimed at bolstering collaborat­ion among sports institutio­ns nationwide.

Al-Shaheen highlighte­d the Kuwaiti football team’s rigorous preparatio­ns for their encounters against their Qatari counterpar­ts in the joint Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup. Expressing optimism, he voiced hopes for a favorable outcome for the “Blues” against the reigning Asian champions.

Echoing these sentiments, Fuhaid Al-Ajmi, President of the Kuwaiti Winter Games Club, underscore­d the significan­ce of such gatherings in nurturing a spirit of unity and solidarity among Kuwaiti athletes and sports enthusiast­s alike.

Al-Ajmi disclosed that the club is gearing up to host the Ice Hockey World Cup slated for April, underscori­ng that Kuwait’s role as host for these prestigiou­s internatio­nal sporting events, supported by the committee and the General Sports Authority, serves to elevate its stature on the global sports stage.
