KUWAIT CITY, April 15: The Ministry of Interior’s Criminal Security Sector headed by Major General Hamid Al-Dawas and the Drug Control General Department led by Brigadier General Mohammad Qabazard have confiscated about a ton of narcotic substances since the beginning of 2024 -923 kilograms of hashish, 36 kilograms of marijuana, 14 kilograms of shabu, 15 kilograms of chemical substances and half kilogram of cocaine, reports Al-Anba daily quoting a reliable source.
The two departments also foiled attempts to smuggle about two and a half million narcotic pills and confiscated 14,280 bottles of different types of liquor.
The source revealed that the first drug confiscation this year happened on Jan 7, when 13 kilograms of drugs were found in the possession of 21 individuals; while February witnessed an increase in smuggling operations with 150 kilograms of hashish confiscated on Feb 18 and 113 kilograms at the end of the month. The source said the most prominent of such cases were the smuggling of various drugs hidden in live sheep and confiscation of a huge quantity of drugs smuggled through the airport.
The source confirmed that the Criminal Security Sector continues to pursue drug dealers and smugglers.
On the other hand, public security officers arrested two young men for promoting narcotic pills in Taima with 100,000 Lyrica pills, powder and tools for manufacturing narcotic pills in their possession.
A security source reported that officers from the Public Security Sector who were patrolling the area noticed a car parked in a suspicious manner. When they approached the car, the driver and his companion tried to escape, but the officers chased them and they were arrested after intense resistance.
The officers searched the car, leading to the discovery of several bags filled with Lyrica pills -- estimated at 100,000 pills, in addition to some narcotic powder and tools for manufacturing narcotic pills.
In the initial investigation, the suspects admitted that they were promoting narcotic pills to young people and they were manufacturing the pills using narcotic powder.
