Kuwaiti FM meeting his Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan counterparts
KUWAIT CITY, April 15: The report by the British Bourse & Bazaar Foundation sheds light on Kuwait’s unique position in the Gulf region as a significant importer of gas from non-Gulf sources, highlighting missed economic opportunities for regional countries like Iran and Qatar, reports Al-Anba daily.
Expanding the gas sector across the Gulf is seen as crucial for the region’s energy transition, with the potential to pave the way for becoming a global center in the production and export of carbon-neutral hydrogen.
The report emphasizes the importance of cooperation among Gulf countries in energy transfer and water security to improve regional security and economic development. Strengthening cooperation in the energy, minerals, and water industries could lead to joint exploitation of resources, establishment of neutral regional zones, and creation of interconnected energy sources.
With abundant solar and wind energy resourc
es in the region, there is a significant opportunity to exploit clean natural energy at the regional level and export it abroad, benefiting various industry sectors. The establishment of a strong and interconnected electricity network, facilitated by the Gulf Cooperation Council Electricity Interconnection Authority, further enhances the region’s position to become a center for the production and export of clean energy.
The report also underscores the growing importance of mineral wealth in the Gulf, with recent discoveries of essential minerals for renewable
energy technologies. Joint investments in developing necessary infrastructure for mineral extraction and export logistics could position the Gulf region as a major influencer in the global transition to clean energy.
Addressing water scarcity in the Gulf region is another crucial aspect highlighted in the report. The establishment of a regional water interconnection network is seen as strategically necessary to provide fresh water to Gulf Cooperation Council countries, especially those heavily reliant on water desalination.
