Solar energy research initiated by ACK
The Electronics & Control Engineering Department at the Australian College of Kuwait (ACK) has initiated a research project studying the potential of renewable energies. Knowing that Kuwait is a country with the one of the highest levels and quality of solar irradiation in the world, ACK has tied up with “Al-Dura United Trading & Contracting Company” and “Mashael AlKuwait for Solar & Renewable Energy Projects Company” - both key players in the field of solar and renewable energy - who donated a complete solar station of 1 kilowatt with all its related devices and equipment for research purposes.
Solar energy represents a major area of interest for ACK as it is relevant to Kuwait’s climate and geographical location. Kuwait measures over 2000/ (KWH) per square meter a year, considered to be very high on a global scale. In addition, the department is also planning to assess how the accumulation of dust on solar panel scan affect the overall efficiency of the solar conversion system a problem which could arise considering the nature of Kuwait’s environment.
On this occasion, Dr Mohammad Abdul Nibi, Head of the Electronics & Control Engineering Department at ACK, commented: “The collaboration with AlDura United and Mashael Al-Kuwait is another step towards providing relevant solar energy equipment and hands-on experience to our students, equippingthem with thenecessary skills, tools and knowledge to better understand and experience the field of renewable energies.”
ACK students and faculty will be carrying out several research projects related to renewable energies and how it could affect and benefit Kuwait’s environment.
