Lagarde lauds Amir for his ‘great hu­man­i­tar­ian role’

KUWAIT: The vis­it­ing Di­rec­tor Gen­eral of In­ter­na­tional Mon­e­tary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde yes­ter­day lauded His High­ness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ah­mad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for play­ing a great role at var­i­ous lev­els, par­tic­u­larly in the hu­man­i­tar­ian realm.

In state­ment to KUNA as she emerged from her meet­ing with His High­ness the Amir, Lagarde said she was hon­ored to meet him adding that the meet­ing was an op­por­tu­nity to dis­cuss a large num­ber of eco­nomic and po­lit­i­cal is­sues. Lagarde added that she con­grat­u­lated His High­ness the Amir on his des­ig­na­tion by the UN as the ‘Hu­man­i­tar­ian Leader,’ also laud­ing his great role to­ward var­i­ous hu­man­i­tar­ian crises.

The State of Kuwait namely His High­ness the Amir plays a vi­tal role to­ward re­gional and global is­sues, she said, adding that her talks with His High­ness the Amir dealt with eco­nomic con­di­tions in Kuwait “for sake of over­haul­ing the sec­tor for ser­vice of fi­nan­cial sta­bil­ity.” She added that the dis­cus­sions also dealt with var­i­ous po­lit­i­cal is­sues, where she con­veyed her per­spec­tive re­gard­ing the global econ­omy and haz­ards it faces.

The meet­ing was at­tended by Deputy Prime Min­is­ter and Min­is­ter of Fi­nance Anas Al-Saleh, Ad­vi­sor at Amiri Di­wan Mo­ham­mad Daifal­lah Sharar and Cen­tral Bank of Kuwait (CBK) Gov­er­nor Mo­ham­mad Al-Hashel.

Lagarde was also re­ceived by His High­ness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ah­mad AlJaber Al-Sabah, who praised the IMF’s role in sup­port­ing the con­cept of Is­lamic fi­nanc­ing, wish­ing Lagarde a suc­cess­ful par­tic­i­pa­tion in the Global Is­lamic Fi­nance Con­fer­ence. Hashel at­tended the meet­ing as well. — KUNA
