KUWAIT: Participants in the ‘Foundations of Social Development and the Demands of the Industrial Transformation of the GCC’ Conference recommended setting up a program that aids social development in the GCC states’ communities. The conference is organized by the Center for Gulf Arabian Peninsula Studies (CGAPS) from November 16-18 under the slogan of ‘A Reading into Reality and the Future.’ The participants highlighted the importance of having laws and regulations that support social and industrial advancement in the GCC countries.

Professor of literature and criticism at the Faculty of Dar Al-Uloom at Cairo University Dr. Mohammad Hassan Abdullah called for supporting women novelists in the Gulf region, pointing out that females have an aptitude to story-telling more than their fellow males. Women fiction should be reflections of private lives, experiences and observations in captivating literary forms.

Professor of Arabic Language at Kuwait University Dr Abdugader Rebai, meanwhile, said that having different cultural institutes in the region, made the GCC countries a hub of Arab culture. He clarified that Al-Arabi magazine issued by the Kuwait Ministry of Information is a fine example of a magazine of cultures that embraces many literary forms. The CGAPS’ conference has covered various sessions and has seen the participation of a number of specialists and professors from Kuwait and abroad. — KUNA
