Electric cables’ theft gang busted
KUWAIT: Jahra detectives busted a gang of five Egyptians, including one who is currently outside the country, and an Iranian who stole electric cables from various areas. Detectives also found old ammunition they melted for copper. The arrest was made when detectives noticed three men trying to steal cables from a transformer. When their car was searched, several cutters of various sizes were found. The arrested men said they stole from the same transformer before, and gave the stolen material to the fifth suspect who sold it for KD 800, took KD 100 and gave KD 700 to the fourth suspect who is outside the country. KD 140 was given to the first suspect, KD 160 to the second, KD 180 to the third while the fourth suspect kept KD 320 for himself. The first, second, third and fourth suspects confessed that they went to steal replacement cables in the transformer after the initial theft, but the ministry did not replace anything. The fifth suspect told police about the person who bought the stolen material at Amghara scarp yard, who was arrested at Kuwait Airport with KD 1,025 and 40,000 Iranian tomans, along with several transfer receipts.
Hawally fire
Firemen put out a fire that broke out in a Hawally building. No injuries were reported. Meanwhile, an investigation was opened to determine the cause of the fire.
Fugitives caught
Sulaibiya detectives arrested three Saudi nationals who were sentenced to serve jail terms. The first suspect was sentenced to two years jail and deportation, followed by four years after he serves the first, and he was wanted on charges of escaping after his arrest. The second suspect was sentenced for three years, and the third for four years.
Police campaign
Policemen arrested 52 wanted persons, 33 persons who were ordered arrested, 17 absconders and 32 whose residency permits were expired, while 241 traffic citations were issued and 31 vehicles impounded.
Landmines
Director General of Relations and Security Information at the Interior Ministry Brig Adel AlHashash warned against the danger of approaching or playing with landmines and foreign objects found in open and remote areas. He said any person who finds such things should call authorities at once, either at the police stations or on 112.
