Burgan Bank sponsors RunQ8

-

As part of its commitment and strategy towards Corporate Social Responsibility, Burgan Bank sponsored RunQ8, the 10 km charity race organized by the Fawzia Sultan Rehabilitation Institute (FSRI). RunQ8 took place on Saturday November 28th, 2015 on the Gulf Road, under the theme of “Run for a Cause.”

The event, which drew large crowds and around 1,800 runners, was organized by FSRI to support its non-profit Children’s Evaluation and Rehabilitation Center (CERC), with all proceeds from RUNQ8 going towards helping children and families in need. Caring for a child with a physical and/or cognitive disability has significant emotional, physical and financial effects on a family; many families will even postpone seeking treatment for the child due to finan- cial reasons. FSRI’s goal is to provide much needed specialized treatment and support to affected children, regardless of their family’s financial constraints.

Commenting on the bank’s sponsorship, Bashir Jaber, Burgan Bank’s Group Head & Investor Relations & Corporate Communications - General Manager said: “Our sponsorship of RUNQ8 comes as part of our corporate social responsibility strategy and in line with Burgan Bank’s vision of supporting noble initiatives that help raise public awareness on children with a physical or cognitive disability, while encouraging healthy living to these children. Our aim is to work towards increasing health awareness between the communities in Kuwait as well as reinforcing the public to adopt healthy lifestyles.”

Dr Elham Al-Hamdan, President and Medical Director at FSRI, emphasized the importance of community initiatives such as RunQ8 in order to raise awareness and help mobilize financial and moral support for important social causes. She added that only with the support of community and corporate sponsors, like Burgan Bank, is FSRI able to properly carry out its mission as a nonprofit healthcare institution.

Burgan Bank’s sponsorship falls under its corporate social responsibility umbrella, to support a cause that raises public awareness on children with a physical or cognitive disability, while encouraging healthy living for these children. The bank will continue sponsoring many more community events in the future, to help grow health awareness among the communities in Kuwait.
