Pan­thers’ Hu­berdeau hurt in win over Devils

WEST POINT: Jonathan Hu­berdeau left with an ap­par­ent left leg in­jury dur­ing the Florida Pan­thers’ 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on Satur­day night. As Hu­berdeau turned away from a check be­hind New Jersey’s net, the skate of Devils cen­ter Sergey Kalinin ap­peared to come down on Hu­berdeau’s left an­kle. The Pan­thers have not of­fered an up­date on Hu­berdeau’s sta­tus. Roberto Luongo made 25 saves and Jonathan Marches­sault, Colton Sce­viour, Aaron Ek­blad and Vin­cent Trocheck scored for Florida. Goal­tend­ing tan­dem Cory Schneider and Keith Kinkaid split time in goal for New Jersey. Schneider al­lowed all four Florida goals on 15 shots, while Kinkaid stopped all eight shots he faced. Andy Greene and Michael Cam­mal­leri scored for New Jersey.


In Pitts­burgh, Oliver Bjork­strand scored twice and Sergei Bo­brovsky made 22 saves to help the Colum­bus Blue Jack­ets beat the Pitts­burgh Pen­guins 5-3 in the pre­sea­son fi­nale for both teams. Matt Calvert had a goal and an as­sist, Bran­don Saad and Boone Jen­ner also scored, and Alexan­der Wennberg had two as­sists. Kris Le­tang, Ev­geni Malkin and Scott Wil­son scored for the Stan­ley Cup cham­pion Pen­guins. Marc-An­dre Fleury stopped 31 shots.


In St Paul, Min­nesota, Char­lie Coyle capped a four-goal third pe­riod and the Min­nesota Wild beat the Win­nipeg Jets 51. Mike Reilly, Christoph Bertschy and Marco Scan­della also scored for Min­nesota in the third af­ter Zach Parise got the game’s first goal mid­way through the first. De­van Dub­nyk stopped 17 shots for the Wild. Joel Armia scored with 8:14 left in the first to make it 1-1, and Michael Hutchin­son made 29 saves for the Jets.


In Bos­ton, Ryan Spooner’s break­away goal 1:48 into over­time lifted the Bos­ton Bru­ins over the Philadel­phia Fly­ers 1-0. David Backes’ pass led Spooner on a break­away be­fore he snapped a quick shot past goalie Steve Ma­son. Ma­son made 22 saves. Tuukka Rask stopped 27 shots.


In Detroit, An­thony Man­tha’s third goal of the pre­sea­son with 8:03 left broke a tie and pow­ered the Detroit Red Wings to a 43 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Detroit led 3-1 af­ter two pe­ri­ods. Gustav Nyquist and Dy­lan Larkin scored in the first pe­riod, and Bren­dan Smith added a goal late in the sec­ond. Toronto scored twice in a 12-sec­ond span to start the third pe­riod and tied it 3-3. Wil­liam Ny­lan­der made it 3-2 39 sec­onds in, and Brooks Laich’s first of the ex­hi­bi­tion sea­son at 51 sec­onds drew the game even. Zach Hyman scored in the sec­ond pe­riod for Toronto. Petr Mrazek made 29 saves for Detroit, while Toronto goal­tender Fred­erik An­der­sen stopped 19 of 23 shots.


In Tampa, Florida, Steven Stamkos’ three-as­sist per­for­mance helped the Tampa Bay Light­ning beat the Nashville Preda­tors 5-3. Nikita Nes­terov, Bray­den Point, Jonathan Drouin, Tyler John­son and On­drej Palat scored for the Light­ning, while Tampa Bay goaltenders Ben Bishop and An­drei Vasilevskiy split time in net. Bishop made 14 saves on 16 shots in two pe­ri­ods, and Vasilevskiy stopped seven of eight shots in the third.

Pekka Rinne al­lowed all five Light­ning goals on 36 shots. Craig Smith scored twice for the Preda­tors, and Colin Wil­son added a goal.


In St. Louis, Alex Pi­etrangelo scored early in the third pe­riod to lift the St. Louis Blues over the Chicago Black­hawks 2-1. Vladimir Tarasenko got his first goal of the pre­sea­son in the first pe­riod for the Blues. Carter Hut­ton stopped 11 of 12 shots in two pe­ri­ods for St. Louis, and Jake Allen stopped all six shots he faced. Den­nis Ras­mussen scored for Chicago to make it 1-1 early in the sec­ond. Corey Craw­ford stopped 19 shots.


In Las Vegas, Gabriel Lan­deskog’s goal 30 sec­onds into over­time lifted the Colorado Avalanche to a 2-1 come­back win over the Los An­ge­les Kings.

Mikhail Grig­orenko scored with 1:14 left in the third pe­riod to tie the game and set up Lan­deskog’s win­ner. Se­myon Var­lamov made 26 saves for the Avalanche. Jeff Carter scored for Los An­ge­les, and Jonathan Quick stopped 23 of 25 shots. The game was played at the TMo­bile Arena, which will host Las Vegas’ ex­pan­sion team be­gin­ning in 2017-18.


In Ed­mon­ton, Al­berta, Markus Grand­lund scored the win­ner and added an as­sist, and the Van­cou­ver Canucks over­came a slow start to close out their ex­hi­bi­tion sched­ule with a 3-2 vic­tory over the Ed­mon­ton Oil­ers.

Bran­don Sut­ter and Sven Baertschi also scored for the Canucks. Benoit Pouliot and Con­nor McDavid scored for the Oil­ers, who had a three-game win­ning streak snapped. Ja­cob Mark­strom made 34 saves for the Canucks. Cam Tal­bot stopped 18 shots for Ed­mon­ton.
